• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience with setting up and operating CNC lathes and live tooling.
• Lean Manufacturing principles understanding and application.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision and maintain quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes with 2+ axis conversational programming, live tooling, and sub-spindle.
• Write and edit complex lathe programs.
• Verify calibration of measuring equipment and use manual measuring tools.
• Ensure dimensional and quality requirements of components are met.
• Operate manual lathes and milling machines as required.
• Assist with general housekeeping of the shop.
• Wear PPE and enforce ODI safety guidelines and procedures for all employees and visitors.
• Communicate daily with engineers and planners to ensure routers and schedules are accurate.
• Identify and implement ways to reduce set-up times and communicate improvements to routers and schedules.
• Mentor and train employees.
• Participate in Lean processes, working with Planning, Quality, Peers, and Engineering to improve flow and throughput.
• Identify potential cost reductions regarding product design and communicate to Leads and Engineering for evaluation.

Position Overview

The responsibility of the CNC Lathe Machinist position is to set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture complex and non‑complex parts while maintaining high quality standards and workmanship. The machinist is also responsible for keeping the work area and equipment safe, clean, and organized.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years’ experience in manual lathe and mill operation.
• 3–5 years’ experience in CNC lathe operation.
• Experience in an engineer‑to‑order make‑to‑order shop environment.
• Knowledge or training in Lean Manufacturing Principles and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of them.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to set up a machine and run the job with no supervision.
• Commitment to high quality standards and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge and use of all associated precision measuring tools.
• Understanding of calibration cycles for measuring tools and gauges.
• Support and assist with machine preventive maintenance program.
• Understanding of lathe programming languages.
• Awareness of all machine hazard areas.
