Job summary

Ultra Machining Company (UMC) is seeking a CNC Machinist to operate, set up, and inspect machines in a fast-paced shop. The role supports production goals while upholding a culture of safety and quality. Expect to work in a team-oriented environment with opportunities for growth.

Key responsibilities include setting up machines, performing inspections, documenting results, and assisting in process improvements with Supervisors and Senior Machinists. Training others is also part of the role.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Machining or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years’ experience as a machinist; experience with CMM/VCMM is preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and perform basic measurements with hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up machines for various jobs and perform operations.
• Conduct in-process and first-piece inspections to ensure quality.
• Document machine setups, inspections, and part specifications.
• Lead or assist in process improvements with Engineering and Senior Machinists.
• Train other machinists on job functions and controls.
• Maintain a safe work environment and report hazards promptly.

About The Role

The CNC Machinist is responsible for the daily operation, setup, and quality assurance of machines within their designated area. This role supports both production goals and a culture of safety while upholding the core values of the company: Great People, Going Beyond, and Growing.

What You'll Do

• Independently set up machines for various jobs; seek assistance from a Supervisor or Senior Machinist for advanced setups as needed.
• Execute efficient, high-quality machine operation, ensuring parts meet required specifications through frequent inspections and documentation.
• Proactively recommend and implement process improvements in collaboration with Engineering and Senior Machinists.
• Assist in troubleshooting processes with the support of Supervisors, Engineers, and Senior Machinists to maintain optimal production flow.
• Keep a comprehensive written log at each machine, creating a record of machine operations, part specifications, and setup notes accessible to other shifts or supervisors.
• Perform in-process inspections of machined products, accurately documenting results, and verifying adherence to standards.
• Conduct and support first-piece inspections, ensuring alignment with inspection plans and troubleshooting as needed.
• Perform total productive maintenance on assigned machines, including minor repairs and troubleshooting.
• Train other machinists or operators on job functions, controls, and machine operations to promote team competency and flexibility.
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment, reporting potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment issues promptly.

Requirements

Education and Experience

• Associate’s degree in Machining or related field or work experience in place of education.
• 2+ years’ experience as a machinist.
• Previous experience working with CMM and VCMM

Competencies

• Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively, and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communications.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use hand-held measuring tools.
• Basic knowledge of CMM, VCMM, and GD&T.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged standing with occasional twisting (80-90% of the workday)
• Pushing/pulling carts and/or pallet jacks
• Dexterity with computers - the ability to type and use a mouse.
• Frequent lifting of materials up to 40 lbs., occasional lifting to 75 lbs.
• Continuous use of hands and upper extremities in fine and gross manipulation using various wrist positions and grip/pinch spans to operate equipment, push buttons, carry boxes, push carts, etc.
• Frequent firm grip with tools requiring torque to tighten machine parts, tooling, and fixtures
• Must be able to meet customer demand requirements for performing visual inspection and/or other product acceptance activities with or without accommodation (only for positions in which this is a requirement of the job per the customer requirement).
• Ability to pass an annual vision test.

Salary Description $25.29- $44.03/ hour- shift diffential included
