JOB DESCRIPTION *

CNC Machinist
Job Purpose

Work includes assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions.

Nature Of Duties

CNC Machinist 1st Class duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Decision making abilities in situations where problems are complex
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T ASME Y14.5-2009
  • Set up machinery without assistance including but not limited to,
    • Planning setup
    • Acquiring all tooling & gages needed before starting set up
    • Selection of correct tooling needed for job
    • Building of fixtures if needed
    • Clamping and positioning of fixtures correctly
    • Setting tooling offsets
    • Proofreading programs
    • Correctly completing 1st part
    • Deburring and inspecting 1st part
    • Submitting 1st part for First Article Inspection (FIA)
  • Making precise and accurate parts in single & production runs
  • Keeps a clean, organized and safe work area
  • Maintains company equipment
  • Makes sure all programs, tooling and fixtures are properly saved when job is complete
  • Participates and initiates continuous improvement of processes
  • Abides by all company and safety regulations
  • Must run multiple machines when required
  • Make use of idle time in a productive manner
Education And Experience
  • 5 years’ experience in CNC Lathe Operations with Fanuc controls
  • 3 years’ minimum experience in job shop environment
