Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a machinist to perform complete setup on lathes, mill/drill, and surface grinders from drawings and instructions. You will determine the sequence of operations, tool selection, and speeds to meet tolerances on diverse parts in a manufacturing setting.

The role involves machine adjustments, tool pre-setting, corrective actions for faults, coolant management, and routine checks. On-site role with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; apprenticeship or formal training may be required.
• 0-2 years of experience in the field or related field.
• Knowledge of GD&T and CNC programming/corrections.

Responsibilities

• Make machine adjustments for efficient machining operations and use precision gauges to verify conformance.
• Pre-set and/or sharpen cutting tools as needed.
• Identify improper machine functions and take corrective action.
• Replenish coolant, replace filters and lubricate machinery.
• Check and report any damage to equipment.

About the Role

Perform complete and independent setup of various machines such as lathes, mill/drill, and surface grinder, working from O.I.S., prints, tapes sketches, oral and written instructions to determine the sequence of operations to be performed, dimensions and tolerances to be held, tools to use, method of locating, aligning and holding work and feeds and speeds.

What You Will Do

• Make machine adjustments for efficient machining operations. Use precision measuring instruments, machines and gauges to check own work for conformance to specifications
• As required, pre-set and/or sharpen cutting tools
• Recognize improper machine functions and take corrective action and provide information to resolve discrepancies
• Replenish coolant, change accessible filters and lubricate own machine tool as required
• Check and report damage

What You Have

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related field.
• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field.
• Typically reports to a team lead/supervisor/manager

Preferred qualifications

• Experience 1 to 2 years
• CNC Experience with ability to make corrections in programing
• Have working knowledge of GD&T

Summary Pay Range

$25.58 - $38.36
