Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Alsip, IL is seeking a CNC Machining Specialist for multi‑axis mills and lathes. You’ll perform full CNC set‑ups, run production, and complete PMs in a fast‑paced shop environment on 1st or 2nd shifts.

Compensation ranges from $27.51 to $31.24 per hour with a $1.35/hr second shift differential; sign‑on bonus of $2,000.00. The role requires programming, tool setup, and strict tolerance control, plus Kaizen and safety leadership.

Qualifications

• 3+ years CNC maintenance mechanic or equivalent advanced CNC operating experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and consistently hold tight tolerances.
• Proficiency in: CNC Tooling, CNC Programming, G-Code, M-Code, and CNC Machine Setup & Changeover.

Responsibilities

• Perform full CNC set-ups, run production, and complete PM aligned to Standard Work.
• Inspect, deburr, and execute manual operations as needed; stage and preset cutting tools for upcoming jobs.
• Maintain and update visual controls; propose and support countermeasures to improve flow and quality.
• Participate in SMED, Kaizen, and 5 Whys problem‑solving to eliminate waste and resolve abnormalities.
• Escalate and/or correct equipment variances; champion a clean, orderly, and safe work area.

Job description

CNC Machining Specialist — Multi‑Axis Mills & Lathes

Location: Alsip, IL

Shifts

• 1st: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm
• 2nd: Monday – Friday, 4:00pm – 12:30am

Compensation: $27.51–$31.24 per hour, plus $1.35/hr shift differential for 2nd shift

A day in the life

You arrive on the floor, glance at the day’s travelers and set‑up sheets, and head to your station—either a 3–4 axis VMC or a 2–4 axis CNC lathe. You stage and preset tooling for the next run, load the program, verify G/M-code, and dial in your offsets. Standard Work guides your set‑up, first-article check, and preventive maintenance. Throughout the run, you inspect features, deburr edges, and document results on visual controls so the cell stays in flow. When something looks off, you don’t just adjust—you investigate. You join quick huddles, apply 5 Whys, and help craft countermeasures. You jump into SMED and Kaizen activities to cut changeover time, and you mentor others on safe practices, speaking up any time you spot a risk. Every part that leaves your station hits print, holds tight tolerances, and reflects a strong mechanical aptitude and pride of workmanship.

What you bring

• At least 3+ years of CNC maintenance mechanic or equivalent advanced CNC operating experience
• Ability to read blueprints and consistently hold tight tolerances
• Proficiency in: CNC Tooling, CNC Programming, G-Code, M-Code, and CNC Machine Setup & Changeover
• Hands‑on experience with: CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC) and CNC Lathe (2–4 axis)
• Strong mechanical aptitude with disciplined, creative problem‑solving
