Job summary

Decavo is seeking a CNC Machining Manager to lead the machining department, manage schedules, tooling, and quality, and provide technical leadership in CNC programming and operation to meet production demands. This hands-on role drives manufacturability, productivity, and on-time delivery in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality to improve processes, mentor staff, and uphold safety standards while scaling operations to meet customer requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Machining Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and daily operation of Decavo's machining department. This position manages department personnel, production schedules, equipment, tooling, quality, and operational priorities. The CNC Machining Manager also provides technical leadership through CNC programming and operating machining equipment, developing and reviewing CNC programs, and supporting production requirements. This position works closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality to improve manufacturability, quality, productivity, and schedule performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION

• Direct and assign work to machining employees.
• Monitor attendance, productivity, quality and performance.
• Train and evaluate employee performance.
• Address performance or conduct concerns.
• Create and maintain production schedules.
• Approve timecards, overtime, schedules or leave requests.
• Direct and supervise the work of at least two full-time employees or their equivalent within the machining department.
• Lead by example and support others in maintaining a high level of accountability and competency.
• Promote an inclusive and involved culture.
• Lead/participate in interdepartmental meetings as needed, focusing on understanding and team buy-in.
• Identify needed skill sets and/or knowledge requirements within our machining team and propose actions or opportunities to elevate team potential.

CNC PROGRAMMING AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

• Establish and maintain CNC machining standards that support safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.
• Set up and operate CNC equipment to manufacture tooling, validate programs, troubleshoot production issues, or support department workload.
• Develop and review CNC programs for composite trimming a aluminum tooling operations.
• Continually communicate machining capabilities and solutions with team members to facilitate improved functionality and cost-effective solutions.
• Develop best methods and practices based on current or industry standards.
• Establish CNC programming and program-documentation standards.
• Serve as the primary liaison between Engineering and Machining.

PRODUCTION PLANNING AND PERFORMANCE

• Support production management to ensure production goals and deadlines are being met.
• Manage department schedules, capacity, and workflow to support production requirements.
• Communicate foreseeable production constraints and risks with production management and propose solutions.
• Work closely with Engineering to review designs for efficiency, capability, and manufacturability.
• Coordinate the movement of materials, tooling, work in process, and completed parts within the facility.

QUALITY AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

• Monitor and improve efficiency within the machining department.
• Drive continuous improvement in designs and processes for which you are responsible.
• Propose improvements (budget, ROI, lead time, expected outcomes) for tools, workflows, or other items that make us more effective.
• Continually evaluate and champion best practices within CNC machining for improved quality and increased yield.

EQUIPMENT AND FACILITY SUPPORT

• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs and software support for machining equipment in partnership with internal personnel and outside service providers.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Five or more years of CNC programming and machining experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency with applicable CAD/CAM software.
• Experience creating, reviewing and troubleshooting CNC programs, tooling strategies, feeds, speeds, and toolpaths.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, manufacturing work instructions, and GD&T requirements.
• Previous experience leading or supervising employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience machining composite materials and aluminum tooling.
• Experience in aerospace manufacturing or an AS9100-certified environment.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or root-cause analysis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is performed in both an office setting and an active manufacturing environment, with regular time spent in the CNC machining and production areas.
• Regular exposure to operating CNC machines, cutting tools, moving mechanical components, powered industrial equipment, and material-handling activities.
• Exposure to elevated noise levels from machining, trimming, dust-collection systems, compressed air, and other manufacturing equipment. Hearing protection may be required in designated areas.
• Required to wear applicable personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, protective clothing, and respiratory protection when required by the task or designated work area.
• Regularly remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods while supervising machining operations and supporting production activities.
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or reposition tooling, fixtures, raw materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or appropriate lifting equipment.
