Amentum is seeking a CNC Machine Repair Supervisor in Durham, NC to lead a team of technicians and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance at the client’s facility.

The role requires hands-on expertise with CNC machines, PLCs, robotics, and industrial controls, plus strong supervision, safety training, and root-cause analysis capabilities. Typical schedule is Mon-Fri 6:30 am–3:00 pm, with weekend and call-in support as needed.

Qualifications

• Ten years of experience in a technical role related to industrial Production/Facilities Maintenance.
• Five years of supervisory experience in industrial Production/Facilities Maintenance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access.
• Experience in supervisory or subcontract management in a technical industrial environment.
• Ability to analyze facilities maintenance problems and implement solutions for reliability, quality, safety and cost.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5-14 technicians, overseeing safety training, audits, and quality control.
• Supervise maintenance and repairs on CNC machines, automation, and related controls.
• Coordinate documentation, scheduling, and reporting with management and client teams.
• Mentor less experienced technicians and communicate effectively with site management and vendors.

Job description

Amentum is seeking a CNC Machine Repair Supervisor in Durham, NC.

Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm; hours may vary based on business demand. Weekend and call-in support as needed.

This position will Supervise a team of 5 -14 employees supporting technical operations at the client’s facility. The scope of service includes the maintaining, development, execution, and continuously improving the preventative and predictive maintenance activities at the client’s site. The equipment included in the scope is:

• Multi-Axis Wet and Dry Grinders
• Balancers
• Central Coolant Systems
• Pumps and Exhaust systems
• HVAC Units
• Hydraulic and electrical systems
• Robotic Tool Changers

The Supervisor is responsible for technical support, direction, safety training, audits and quality control for Amentum facility, production and/or contract employees in a fast-paced industrial production environment.

This Supervisor will also be able to perform as the technical expert with respect to installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and documenting the electrical/electronic, mechanical and controls needs of automated equipment in an industrial environment.Maintains, improves, and troubleshoots, Machine Tools, Automated and CNC Machines with PLC and distribute I/O control systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens 7, GE, Emerson, Reliance, Omron, Ceda, Honeywell and related controllers. Must be well versed in robots and robotic control systems such as Fanuc, ABB, Mazatrol Kuka, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, Denso, and Mitsubishi. Must be fluent working with instrumentation such as thermocouples; RTDs and pressure, flow, position, and level transducers; and associated equipment and techniques. Works with voltage from control (12-24V) through medium voltage motor controls 480 volts, 3 phase.

This position provides instructions and mentors and trains less skilled technicians as required. Must be an effective communicator with team, site management, vendors, and customers. This position will lead small to large repairs, overhauls, and construction projects with minimal supervision.

The Machine Tool Supervisor must have the ability to identify troubleshoot and correct any operational or safety-related issues and perform independent equipment root cause evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. Identifies and documents cost savings.

The Supervisor is responsible for the prioritization of work based on the needs of the client and for the on-time completion of all work, as well as all documentation involved. Provides and / or schedules needed training and cross‑training for multi‑functional employees. Implement all safety rules and guidelines for all Amentum employees. The Supervisor is also responsible for scheduling, planning, documentation, maintaining performance and reporting with Amentum management team and client.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and/or manages the entry of correct documentation and scheduled maintenance via CMMS (Maximo).
• Manages reactive/corrective maintenance as it is reported and distributes to available technicians.
• Audits work performance for safety actions and quality of work, and provide coaching as needed.
• Maintains effective performance of individual employees and the worksite team.
• Review’s time and downtime reporting to ensure 99.9% accuracy.
• Compiles, maintains, and presents various reports to Amentum management and client teams.
• Participation and Document Cost savings and Root Cause Analysis.

Minimum Requirements

• Ten years of experience in a technical role related to industrial Production Maintenance and/or industrial Facilities Maintenance or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of supervisory experience in industrial Production Maintenance and/or industrial Facilities Maintenance.
• High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with emphasis on the ability to navigate and formulate within Excel and Access.
• Experience in a supervisory or subcontract management capacity within a technical industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a leadership position demonstrates the ability to analyze Facilities Maintenance related problems (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Cranes and Hoists, etc.); then recognize and determine solutions (engineered or otherwise) for resolution. This includes but is not limited to; opportunities for improved asset reliability, improved quality results, safer work conditions, and lower maintenance costs, improved work plans to increase efficiency.
• Experience creating Power Point presentation and giving presentation in front of large audiences
• Experience with the development and training of a multi‑skilled technical workforce
• Experience in creating metrics and data mining for driving performance results
• Experience utilizing Continuous Improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, 4 M’s, etc.

Preferred Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory role, or equivalent trade school credentials preferred

• Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.
• Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one‑on‑one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.
• Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
• Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.
• Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
• Special Requirements:
• Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
• Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the client, Amentum management and Team members.
• Ability to work from aerial lifts and scissors lift from height up to 30ft. and above
