Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced CNC Machinist to lead multi-axis programming and production. You will work with Engineering to develop and validate parts, while ensuring high quality and adherence to design specifications.

Role requires extensive experience on 3-5 axis mills and lathes, with NX, GD&T, and a collaborative approach. First shift; on-site in New York area, with safety and process improvements as core responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining.
  • 10+ years of experience with manual mill and lathe.
  • 7+ years of experience with NX.
  • Full understanding of GD&T and inspection tooling.
  • Thrives in a changing environment and pivots to drive progress.
  • Collaborates well in a team environment.
  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless alloys, copper, aluminum and titanium.
  • Extensive experience with Mazak, Haas, DMG Mori, Mori Seiki, Okuma CNC machines.
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol, or other CNC controls.
  • Excellent blueprint reading with GD&T per ASME Y14.5M.
  • Familiar with PCs and basic metrology feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware in parallel with Engineering teams.
  • Machine parts from cradle to grave: evaluate tooling, program, setup, machine and inspect.
  • Program, setup and machine 3, 4 and 5 axis parts and develop critical processes.
  • Operate NC and manual equipment as required.
  • Document and standardize production processes with Engineering.
  • Collaborate with leadership to prioritize work per schedule.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to specs.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safe operation of equipment.
  • Adhere to safe and responsible working practices.

Job Description

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:
  • Develop hardware in parallel and in collaboration with Engineering.
  • Machine product from cradle to grave: evaluate, select work-holding & tooling, program, setup, machine and inspect, while communicating with design teams throughout the entire life cycle.
  • Programming, set up and machining of 3, 4 and 5 axis mills, multi axis lathes, and development of critical machining processes.
  • Operation of other equipment as required, both NC controlled and manual.
  • Working with engineering to document and standardize production processes.
  • Partner with leadership and engineering to prioritize work based on production schedule and organizational goals.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications.
  • Perform daily maintenance and regular cleaning of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform all tasks in safe and responsible manner.
Schedule:
  • First shift (Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm)
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience with 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining.
  • 10+ years of experience with manual mill and lathe.
  • 7+ years of experience with NX
  • Full understanding of GD&T and the tools to execute the inspection of.
  • Thrive in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Ability to take on challenges with incomplete information and pivot to drive progress.
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience machining one or more of the following materials: nickel-based stainless-steel alloys (Inconel, Monel, etc.), Copper, Aluminum and/or Titanium.
  • Extensive experience with one or more of the following CNC machines: Mazak, Hass, DMG Mori, Mori Seiki, and/or Okuma.
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol or other CNC controls.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per current ASME Y14.5M standard.
  • Familiar with use of personal computers.
  • Ability to provide Design for Manufacturing feedback.
Must be physically able to:
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs.
Desired:
  • Experience machining vehicle-sized tooling
  • Experience in integrating metrology in-line with machining
  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless-steel alloys, copper, titanium.
  • Tooling and fixture design.
  • Outside processing knowledge, including heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.
  • CMM programming/operation experience.
  • Conversational programming on the machine.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
