Job summary

HuFriedyGroup is seeking a CNC Machine Operator II in Northbrook, IL to fabricate precision components in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. You will operate CNC equipment, interpret blueprints, and uphold GMP and Lean practices to ensure product quality.

You will perform start-up/shutdown, tooling changes, and dimensional inspections with micrometers, calipers, and Go/No-Go gauges. This role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork in a 5S environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–3 years of CNC operating experience in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and procedures.
  • Proficient in performing geometry offsets and tooling changes.
  • Capable of starting, stopping, restarting, and recovering from faults.
  • Read blueprints and engineering drawings; maintain documentation.
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality.
  • Willing to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Must wear PPE and follow EH&S requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines independently to meet production, quality, and safety standards.
  • Perform start-up, shutdown, restart, and fault recovery following procedures.
  • Conduct geometry offsets to maintain dimensional specs.
  • Execute tooling changes and verify tool selection using the tool vending system.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Utilize the Oasis Vision System for inspections when applicable.
  • Document first-piece and in-process production and quality metrics.
  • Identify and escalate quality concerns to Set-Up Technician or Supervisor.
  • Record production output, quality metrics, and labor data; calculate cycle times.
  • Maintain clean work areas and 5S standards; support Lean initiatives.

CNC Machine Operator II Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator II is responsible for operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment to produce precision‑machined components that meet established quality, safety, and production standards. This role independently performs routine machine operation, tooling changes, machine offsets, dimensional inspections, production documentation, and basic troubleshooting while following Lean Manufacturing principles, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and all safety requirements. The CNC Machine Operator II contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and helps ensure efficient, high‑quality manufacturing operations.

What You'll Do
  • Operate assigned CNC machines independently while meeting production, quality, and safety standards.
  • Perform machine start‑up, shutdown, restart, and fault recovery following standard operating procedures.
  • Perform routine machine geometry offsets to maintain dimensional specifications.
  • Complete tooling changes and verify proper tool selection using the tool vending system and tool crib.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, job travelers, and work instructions.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, indicator micrometers, Go/No‑Go gauges, pin gauges, thread plugs, and thread rings.
  • Utilize the Oasis Vision System for inspections when applicable.
  • Complete first‑piece and in‑process inspection documentation accurately.
  • Identify, communicate, and elevate quality concerns or out‑of‑specification conditions to the Set‑Up Technician or Supervisor.
  • Record production output, quality metrics, safety metrics, and labor reporting accurately.Calculate machine cycle times and monitor production performance.
  • Verify heat lot numbers and maintain product traceability documentation.
  • Weigh and count production components using calibrated scales.
  • Remove machining chips and dispose of materials according to company procedures.
  • Maintain clean machines, workstations, gage tables, and surrounding work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience operating CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to safely start, stop, restart, and recover CNC machines after fault conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to accurately complete production, inspection, and labor documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to identify quality concerns and communicate issues promptly.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn manufacturing software systems.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements.
  • Regularly lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.
