Metallus Inc. is seeking candidates for afternoon and midnight CNC machining training roles in Ohio. You will learn to run conventional and NC machines, monitor quality, and become proficient in setup, operation, and process control, all while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in manufacturing machining preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn CNC machining processes, procedures, and production skills to meet customer specs.
• Ensure safety is the top priority and follow plant safety standards.
• Monitor and adjust CNC machinery and perform quality inspections per plans and work instructions.
• Set up, start, operate, and observe CNC machines per work instructions.
• Calculate and set controls for speed, feed, coolant, and depth of cut; retrieve/enter machine commands.
• Select secure fixtures, tools, and materials for CNC operations.
• Document production, inventory changes, and quality records.
• Perform routine maintenance and address equipment issues.
• Support continuous improvement projects aligned with plant objectives.

Multiple positions are available on the afternoon (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM) and midnight (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) shifts.

The purpose of this position is to learn CNC machining processes, procedures, and production skills to ensure the accuracy and consistency of products are achieved to meet customer needs.

This position is responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

• Ensures safety is the number one priority for themselves and others by following plant safety standards.
• Performs daily production and production related tasks with a high emphasis on quality.
• Monitors and adjusts CNC machinery as required; conducts quality checks as outlined in process control plans and work instructions.
• Become familiar with specifications, document control processes and/or work instructions to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence or operations and setup requirements, and verifies conformance of finished work piece.
• Setup, start, observe, and operate conventional, special purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers in accordance with the work instructions and all other standard work documentation, adjusting controls and control media as required.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edict computerized machine control media.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines.
• Records physical production, inventory changes, and completes all process control and quality documentation as required.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs of process problems and breakdowns.
• Recommends, supports and helps implement plant continuous improvement projects and problem-solving efforts; develops an understanding of the plant's vision to meet business plan objectives.
• Load, unload, and inspect product.
• Conduct assigned housekeeping and quality tasks.
• Participates in plant teams.
• Works with a safety-first mentality.
• Is flexible to work any shift assignment and overtime as needed. May at times be required to run multiple machines as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED with two years of experience in manufacturing machining, preferably CNC machining.

Physical Demands & Frequency Requirements

• Continuous standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, reaching and manual manipulation of parts.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
• Manufacturing work environment with moderate exposure to unusual elements such as wet and/or humid conditions. May include transportation and handling of product waste.
• Vision must be corrected distance acuity 20/40 better eye; corrected near acuity 20/33 better eye.
• Hearing at a conversational level.
• Operates forklift and similar machinery and equipment.
• Required to wear protective safety glasses, hearing protection where required and safety shoes where required.
