Job summary

Wabtec Corporation is seeking an experienced CNC operator to produce and assure the quality of parts on lathes, mills, and machining centers. You will read blueprints, set up tooling, and verify tolerances to ensure parts meet specifications.

Hardware experience includes operating CNC machines, applying shop math, and performing edits to CNC programs. Overtime and diverse shifts may be required to meet production demands.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience in CNC operations and conventional machining.
  • Must read blueprints and perform shop math.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Fanuc control experience preferred.
  • Journeyman or apprentice papers preferred.
  • Overtime and weekend shifts may be required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Operates CNC lathes and mills and machining centers.
  • Reads blueprints and job orders for dimensions and tolerances.
  • Verifies finished parts meet specifications.
  • Programs and edits CNC machinery as needed.
  • Adheres to Wabtec Code of Conduct.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces and assures quality of parts (utilizing necessary measuring gages and equipment) and machine parts on all machines.
  • Operates CNC lathes and mills and multiple machining centers
  • May operate conventional machines as needed
  • Reads and studies blueprints and job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instruction such as feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, fixtures and cutting tools to be used.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
  • Programs and/or edits CNC machinery
  • Adhere to Wabtec Code of Conduct
  • Other duties as assigned
Work Environment

The employee will work at times in a temperature-controlled environment. During visits to areas of operations, the employee may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise. The employee may also be asked to perform other duties outside of their function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in CNC operations and conventional machining.
  • Position requires accuracy and responsibility as many duties must be performed without close supervision.
  • Training and/or experience using measuring equipment and reading drawings is needed.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to perform shop math calculations and read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
  • Fanuc control experience desired.
  • Journeyman or apprentice papers preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and work orders.
  • Overtime may be required, and employees are expected to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate this need.
  • Must be able to work any shift, overtime and weekends.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • High level interpersonal skills to work effectively with others to meet production demands.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Performs varied machining operations largely on standard work having close tolerance and finish specifications.
  • Capable of performing edits to CNC programs.
  • Sets up, adjusts and operates standard and special types of machine tools.
  • Working knowledge of cutting tools and materials.
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.
  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.
Physical Demands
  • Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively and clearly. Present Technical information.
  • Employee needs to be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate the production facility.
  • Employee is regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
  • Employee may be required to climb ladders, and other equipment.
  • Employee is regularly required to wear mask covering nose and mouth, steel toed shoes safety goggles at all times.
  • The Position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • Requires intermittent face-to-face interaction with employees on production line.
Additional Information

Salary range: $19-25 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Benefits include health, welfare, and retirement, available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
