Job summary

TalentSource is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer/Setup Technician in Mishawaka, Indiana to program, set up, and optimize CNC lathes for precision components. You will read blueprints, select tooling, and manage offsets while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will collaborate with engineering and production, troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and train operators on setup requirements. A solid background in G-code, CAM software, and multi-axis lathes is essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3-5 years CNC lathe programming and setup experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of G-code programming.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Experience setting up multi-axis CNC lathes.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with manufacturing software systems.

Responsibilities

• Program CNC lathes using G-code and CAM software to manufacture precision-machined parts.
• Set up CNC lathes, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine parameters.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and work instructions.
• Perform first-piece inspections and adjust processes to ensure part quality.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and strategies.
• Monitor production runs and optimize cycle times while maintaining quality.
• Use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.

• Maintain clean, organized work area and perform routine machine maintenance.
• Train operators on setup and process requirements.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Technician to join our machining team in Mishawaka, Indiana. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and optimizing CNC lathes to produce high-quality precision components while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. This position requires strong CNC programming knowledge, setup expertise, blueprint reading skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Program CNC lathes using G-code and/or CAM software to manufacture precision-machined parts.
• Set up CNC lathes, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine parameters.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and work instructions.
• Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure product quality.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.

• Utilize precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators.

• Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Train and support machine operators on setup, process requirements, and quality expectations.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3-5 years of CNC lathe programming and setup experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of G-code programming.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Experience setting up multi-axis CNC lathes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical degree, machining certificate, or apprenticeship completion.
• Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or similar CNC controls.
• CAM software experience such as Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, or Fusion 360.
• Experience with live tooling, bar feeders, and multi-spindle equipment.
• Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of machined materials and tooling.
• Ability to work safely around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
