Job summary

Timken in Morganton, NC is seeking a CNC Lathe Operator to set up, program, and operate CNC lathes to produce high-quality components per engineering specs. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, adjusting speeds/feeds, performing first-part inspections, and ensuring ISO compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in the US.
  • Willing to work required overtime.
  • Strong mechanical skills are preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of machining procedures is a plus.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, follow routers, and perform basic math (decimals and fractions).

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Set up and secure fixtures, cutting tools, materials, and machine attachments, including mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Adjust machining parameters such as speed, feed rate, coolant flow, and cutting depth/angle, or modify CNC programs as necessary.
  • Perform minor programming adjustments as needed (less than 50% of the time).
  • Ensure all required components are available before starting production.
  • Initiate and monitor machine operations, troubleshoot and correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Conduct first-part inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Measure pockets, notches, counterbores, and grooves to ensure accuracy.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Overtime requirements

Position Summary:

The CNC Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC Lathes to machine high-quality components according to engineering specifications.This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to make programming adjustments as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Set up and secure fixtures, cutting tools, materials, and machine attachments, including mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Adjust machining parameters such as speed, feed rate, coolant flow, and cutting depth/angle, or modify CNC programs as necessary.
  • Perform minor programming adjustments as needed (less than 50% of the time).
  • Ensure all required components (rolls, pins, cones, etc.) are available before starting production.
  • Initiate and monitor machine operations, troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Conduct first-part inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Measure all pockets, notches, counterbores, and grooves of finished components to ensure accuracy.
  • Operate machines daily to produce high-quality components efficiently while maintaining safety and productivity standards.
  • Adhere to ISO guidelines and accurately complete all required computer system functions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring machines are free from metal shavings and debris.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Must be willing to work required overtime.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong mechanical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of machining procedures .
  • Able to read and interpret show drawings, follow routers, use simple math to perform basic calculations (plus decimals and fractions), use basic handheld measuring tools.

All employee are required to wear protective eyewear, and slip resistant, steel-toed shoes at all times while on the plant floor.
