Elgen Staffing represents a client in Houston seeking a CNC Lathe Machinist for immediate placement in a full‑service tooling machine shop. The role involves operating CNC equipment, reading shop drawings, and setting up jobs to meet precise dimensions and tolerances.

Candidates should be comfortable with physical work including lifting up to 100 lbs, and have basic G‑Code knowledge along with micrometer/vernier reading skills. Forklift/overhead hoist experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Physical activity requires standing; frequent bending, twisting, and lifting of pieces up to 100 pounds.
• Basic measurement skills with micrometer, vernier, and measuring tape.
• Basic math skills for fraction-decimal conversions.
• Basic reading of prints required.
• Forklift/overhead hoist experience helpful; willingness to be trained.

Responsabilités

• Operates CNC machines and performs required cuts, modifying CNC programs as needed.
• Reads shop drawings, programmed layouts, specifications, or sketches to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
• Loads/unloads plates up to 36,000 lbs using forklift or overhead crane.
• Selects feeds, speeds, depth of cut, tooling based on material type and thickness.
• Removes finished pieces and checks dimensions with measuring tools.
• Marks material and remnant pieces; returns to inventory as needed.
• Performs additional responsibilities as requested.

Our client, a full-service tooling machine manufacturer, has an immediate need for a CNC Lathe Machinist to join their growing team in Houston, Texas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates one or more machines per work load.
• Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
• Studies shop drawings, programmed layouts, specifications, or sketches to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Properly and safely loads and unloads plates in CNC machinery. Able to operate large capacity (36,000 lbs.) forklift truck or overhead crane to move, load, and unload large stainless‑steel plates to and from cutting/machining table. Lift from forklift truck and manually load small pieces on to cutting/machining table.
• Selects proper feeds, speeds, depth of cut, tooling and/or program according to varying conditions of material type, thickness and shape.
• Operate CNC machines to perform required cuts, with the ability to modify CNC programs as required.
• Remove finished pieces from machine and check dimensions of finished pieces using micrometer, measuring tape, verniers, and other measuring tools.
• Resize and remark remnant piece(s) for return to inventory if necessary.
• Mark material with required identification and other required markings.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested or as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Experience with operating CNC machine shop equipment required. Willingness and ability to be trained to operate all machine shop equipment required.
• Physical activity requires continuous standing. Also requires occasional bending, twisting, and carrying and lifting of pieces of steel that at times weigh up to 100 pounds.
• Basic/linear measurement skills such as ability to read micrometer, vernier, and measuring tape are required. Basic understanding of G‑Code helpful.
• Basic math skills necessary to perform fraction‑decimal equivalent conversions are required.
• Basic verbal skills necessary to read, understand, and mark steel and shop orders are required.
• Experience with operating small forklift trucks and overhead hoists helpful. Willingness and ability to be trained to operate is required.
• Knowledge of Company’s traceability system and steel identification marking procedures is helpful.
• Ability to read prints required.
