Job summary

Machinists Inc. in Seattle, WA is seeking skilled Gear Machinists to join our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

We produce custom and prototype gears, splines, shafts, housings, and geared assemblies for aerospace, defense, energy, mining, marine, and heavy industrial sectors. Responsibilities include setting up and operating Pfauter 1600 Gear Grinders, gear shapers, and hobbers; reading blueprints; inspecting parts for tight tolerances; and contributing ideas to improve efficiency and

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience setting up and operating gear manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with gear grinding, gear cutting, OD grinding, or ID grinding.
• Strong understanding of gear manufacturing processes, gear geometry, and gear terminology.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Experience performing precision inspections and quality assurance checks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate gear manufacturing equipment, including Pfauter 1600 Gear Grinders.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and setup documentation.
• Manufacture precision gears, shafts, splines, and related components to exact customer specifications.
• Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with tight tolerances and quality standards.
• Work with a wide range of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel, titanium, plastics, and other specialty materials.
• Support production requirements by operating additional CNC and manual machining equipment, including mills and lathes, as needed.
• Identify process improvements and contribute ideas to increase efficiency and product quality.

We are seeking skilled Gear Machinists to join our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Seattle, Washington. Due to continued growth, we are expanding our team of Gear Cutters and Gear Grinders who manufacture custom and prototype gears, splines, shafts, housings, and geared assemblies for customers in the aerospace, defense, energy, mining, marine, and heavy industrial sectors.
