Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Correctional Healthcare
Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care and essential support services to individuals within a secure correctional healthcare environment. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs/LVNs), and healthcare providers, the CNA assists with daily patient care needs, monitors and reports patient conditions, maintains accurate documentation, and supports the delivery of safe, compassionate, and high-quality healthcare services.

This role requires professionalism, strong observational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a structured and security-conscious setting.

Schedule

Every other weekend required

Available Shifts

8-Hour Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

8-Hour Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

12-Hour Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Key Responsibilities

Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding as needed.

Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and other clinical measurements.

Observe, monitor, and promptly report changes in patient condition, behavior, or physical status to nursing staff.

Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge processes as directed.

Support nurses and healthcare providers during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures.

Respond appropriately during medical emergencies and assist clinical staff as needed.

Documentation and Administrative Support

Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in electronic and/or paper medical records.

Communicate relevant patient information to healthcare team members to support continuity of care.

Participate in required training, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.

Safety and Security

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized healthcare environment.

Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Adhere to all facility policies, security procedures, and operational protocols.

Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable regulations.

Establish and maintain professional boundaries with incarcerated individuals at all times.

Qualifications
Required

1 year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice.

Current CPR and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare environment.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to undergo, pass and maintain a background check.

Preferred

Previous experience in correctional healthcare, behavioral health, hospital, long-term care, skilled nursing, or community healthcare settings.

Experience serving diverse, underserved, or vulnerable populations.

Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic nursing care principles, patient safety practices, and infection prevention standards.

Strong observation skills and ability to recognize and report changes in patient condition.

Ability to accurately document patient information and clinical observations.

Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during stressful or emergency situations.

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

Understanding of security awareness, professional boundaries, and ethical conduct in a correctional setting.

This position is located within a correctional facility and involves daily interaction with incarcerated individuals. Team members are expected to maintain professionalism, safety awareness, and adherence to all institutional healthcare and security regulations while providing respectful, patient-centered care.
