Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at our Minot, ND surgical services area. Under supervision of RN/LPN, you will assist with daily living activities, patient mobility, and contribute to a safe, patient-centered environment.

This role supports the surgical services team—managing supplies, keeping the OR ready, and collaborating across nursing and support staff to ensure timely case turnover.

Qualifications

• Current North Dakota CNA certification; BLS within 60 days.
• Certification required; clerical training preferred.
• OR nurse assistant experience preferred.
• Able to follow written procedures and proper lifting techniques.
• Computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word; ability to run graphs.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an essential role in supporting high-quality patient care. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of an RN or LPN, the CNA assists patients with daily living activities, comfort measures, and mobility needs while consistently promoting dignity, independence, and safety. This role is an important part of a collaborative, supportive care team, contributing to a compassionate care environment through careful observation, timely reporting of patient changes, and clear communication with nursing staff. By supporting individualized care plans and organizational standards, CNAs help ensure patients receive consistent, attentive, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with safe transportation and positioning of surgical patients, providing basic care and comfort under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
• Support daily Surgical Services operations by performing cleaning, housekeeping, restocking, and supply ordering activities to maintain readiness of surgical suites.
• Staff the Central Core by organizing, preparing, and distributing supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Assist with clerical and unit coordination tasks as needed, including maintaining surgery schedules, computer logging, and supporting communication at the control desk.
• Monitor and maintain a clean, organized, and safe surgical environment in accordance with infection-prevention and safety standards.
• Collaborate with nursing, surgical, and support staff to ensure efficient workflow, timely case turnover, and effective communication throughout the department.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications Required: Current North Dakota CNA certification required. BLS required within 60 days of hire.

Educational Requirements: Certification required. Clerical training preferred.

Experience Requirements: Preferred past work experience, but not required.

Special Skills or Training Requirements: Experience and skills in OR nurse assistant roles preferred. Must be able to follow written procedures for care of patients and department. Must know proper lifting techniques and how to handle special equipment for Surgery. Must be able to follow verbal directions. Prefers computer skills/ understanding of Excel/ Microsoft word, ability to run graphs.

Physical Requirements

The CNA, Surgery frequently stands and walks throughout the shift, with regular bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and assisting with patient movement and equipment handling. The role involves lifting, transporting patients, and moving supplies and surgical equipment, requiring moderate physical exertion and proper body mechanics. Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and communication abilities are necessary to safely follow procedures, operate equipment, and respond to verbal directions in a fast-paced environment.

Environmental Requirements

Work is performed in operating rooms, surgical suites, central core areas, and related perioperative support spaces. The role involves routine exposure to medical equipment, alarms, cleaning agents, temperature variations, and potential contact with blood and body fluids. Strict adherence to PPE requirements, infection-prevention practices, sterile technique, and all surgical safety protocols is required to protect patients, staff, and the surgical environment.
