The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to an assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan, follows infection prevention and control policies, and uses personal protective equipment. Responsibilities include assisting with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, recording vital signs, providing psychosocial support, and basic health‑care needs.
The NA aids nurses with procedures when needed, documents resident interactions and outcomes, communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive body fluid specimens, provides housekeeping and laundry services, assists with wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in committees or task forces as requested.
High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of hire. CNA training and certification will be provided by the facility.
Must satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually) and all required certifications.
When applicable, the candidate must be certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
The role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver; a valid driver’s license and medical clearance are required to perform essential driving functions as per the Sanford Driving Policy.
