Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient's status and needs.
• Answer call lights and assist or report needs.
• Obtain weights, vital signs and report results.
• Perform glucometer testing and report results.
• Obtain specimens and transport to designated areas.
• Record intake/output and monitor drains as required.
• Assist patient with ambulation and ADLs.
• Assist with feeding, toileting and elimination needs.
• Transport and reposition patients as needed.
• Make beds and maintain a safe, clean environment.
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Provide postmortem care assistance as directed.
• Offer emotional support to patients and families.
• Maintain confidentiality and policies; document accurately.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.

Position Summary:Assists in patient care throughout nursing areas and is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize his/her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.Responsibilities:1. Observes and reports patient’s status and needs2. Answers call lights and attends to or reports needs3. Obtains weights, vital signs and reports results4. Performs glucometer testing and reports results5. Obtains specimens and transports to and sends through designated tube6. Updates patient Intake/Output including oral intake only, measured urine output, and measured urinary catheter output after emptying, and surgical drains in accordance with established procedures.7. Assists patient with ambulation as ordered8. Assists patient with ADLs including cleansing of perineal area and catheter9. Assists patient with feeding/meals10. Assists patients with toileting and other elimination needs11. Transports, transfers, moves and repositions patients12. Makes occupied/unoccupied beds and assists with maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment13. Sets up simple traction14. Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges15. Assists with postmortem care16. Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary17. Performs other duties as assigned18. Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures19. Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business20. Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other center employees21. Training/equivalent experience as a nursing assistant, CNA, EMT, Medical Assistant3. Previous hospital experience preferred4. Basic Life Support requiredSpecial Skills and Knowledge:1. Assist with care of the postoperative patient2. Current CPR certification through the American Red Cross only required.3.
