Job summary

SRMC Summersville Regional Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our patient-care team in Summersville, West Virginia. The role supports nursing staff with admissions, transfers, discharges, and daily patient-care tasks.

Required: HS diploma, Basic Life Support within 30 days, and state Nurse's Aide Certification (WV, OH, MD, or PA). Prior patient care experience preferred; scheduled weekly hours are 36, with varied shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current state Nurse's Aide Certification (WV, OH, MD, or PA) required.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to Nursing Staff immediately.
  • Assists Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and patient comfort measures.
  • Assists in specimen collection and related patient care activities.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicates nutrition issues to Nursing Staff.
  • Supports department operations with administrative tasks.
  • Answers patient call bells and relays messages to the appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

  • Current Certification issued by state where services will be performed:

  • MD: Certified Nursing Assistant through the Maryland Department of Health

  • OH: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Ohio Department of Health

  • PA: Nurse's Aide Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Health

  • WV: Nurse's Aide Certification through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources


Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior patient care experience.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Nursing Staff with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.

  • Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).

  • Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.

  • Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.

  • Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.

  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.

  • Communicates with Nursing Staff regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.

  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.

  • Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel.
