Job summary

Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo (Medina Healthcare System) is seeking a nights shift, full-time CNA to care for Med/Surg patients under nursing and medical supervision. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, feeding patients, and documenting in the EMR. Candidates must be a Texas CNA and have BLS within 30 days of hire.

Strong English communication and teamwork are required to support patient safety and quality care on the Med/Surg unit.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Care for Med/Surg patients under nursing/medical direction.
• Respond to call lights and alarms to assess patient needs.
• Bathing, dressing, and assistance with daily activities.
• Assist with meals and feeding.
• Transport and assist patients to walk.
• Turn and reposition patients to prevent skin breakdown.
• Maintain clean rooms and assist with supplies and telephones.
• Record vital signs and intake/output as directed.
• Document in EMR and report status changes promptly.
• Participate in department performance improvement.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Care for Med/Surg patients under the direction of nursing and medical staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answers and responds to call lights or alarms to determine patients' needs.
• Bathes, dresses and undresses patients.
• Serves and collects food trays and feeds patients that require help.
• Transports patients or assists patients to walk.
• Turns and repositions bedfast patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent skin breakdown.
• Changes bed linens, runs errands within the hospital, directs visitors and answers telephones.
• Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
• Performs patient accu-checks and reports results appropriately.
• Straightens patient rooms as necessary and makes sure the walkways are free of clutter to provide an environment to assist in fall prevention.
• Document in electronic medical record as necessary.
• Report changes in patient status or needs to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
• Supports and participates in department performance improvement.
• Adheres to policies and procedures of Medina Healthcare System.
• Other duties as assigned or delegated by licensed personnel.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current Texas Certified Nurse Assistant.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift over 50 pounds.
• Must be able to sit and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed especially in fulfilling patient care activities.
