The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Responsibilities include age‑appropriate care, infection prevention and control, basic health‑care needs, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital‑sign monitoring, psychosocial support, transfer assistance, food preparation and dining, housekeeping, recreational participation, and documentation.
High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of the position start date. CNA training and certification are required and provided by the facility.
Must complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits. Minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually. For applicable states, must be certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
This role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license, and must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions as per Sanford Driving Policy.
