Job summary

Coastal Virginia Surgery Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to support preoperative and postoperative patient care in Newport News, VA. You will assist with admissions, transport, vital signs, and recovery care, while maintaining a clean, safe environment and following infection control practices.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Medical Assistant program completion or 3–5 years patient aide experience.
• CNA I & II and BLS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with admissions and preop preparations as directed.
• Assist patients with changing, belongings, and transport within the facility.
• Obtain and record vital signs (BP, temperature, pulse, respirations).
• Assist with patient mobility, bathroom needs, and comfort measures.
• Provide nourishment to patients in the recovery area.
• Perform CLIA-waived testing (e.g., pregnancy and blood glucose).
• Remove IVs as directed and transport lab specimens.
• Maintain a clean and safe patient care environment, including terminal cleaning of stretchers, recliners, and equipment.
• Use infection control practices and PPE appropriately.
• Communicate effectively with patients, escorts, and team members.
• Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and teamwork.
• Manage time effectively and maintain adequate supplies.
• Assist with inventory and other duties as assigned.
• Participate in quality improvement and maintain high patient satisfaction.

Coastal Virginia Surgery Center is an ambulatory surgery center located in Newport News, VA. With two operating rooms and two procedure rooms, the center provides high-quality, cost-effective outpatient surgical and procedural care primarily for Orthopedics, Spine, Podiatry, and Pain Management.Owned and operated in partnership with BSMH and Compass Surgical Partners (an ASC Management organization), the center combines advanced technology with compassionate, patient-centered care in a convenient setting.

Role Summary:Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists staff and registered nurses in providing preoperative and postoperative patient care in the surgery center. Supports patient comfort, safety, and efficient workflow through direct patient assistance, basic clinical tasks, and maintaining a clean environment.

Hours:

• Monday–Friday schedule (30-32 hours/week)
• No nights, weekends, holidays, or call

What You’ll Do:

• Assist with patient admissions and preparation as directed by the RN.

What You’ll Bring:
