Job summary

MUSC Health's Children's Specialty Clinics at Summey Medical Pavilion is a multi-specialty pediatric practice operating Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. The Certified Medical Assistant I provides direct patient care and supports care coordination under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Duties include exam assistance, preparing treatment rooms, interviewing patients, measuring vitals, and documenting in the medical record.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
• Must be certified through AMT or AAMA or NHA or MedCA as a CCMA, CMA, NAHP, or NCCT.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information in the medical record.
• Assists in examination and treatment of patients under supervision of a physician.
• Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant I reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Additional Job Description

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
