Job summary

Medical Associates’ Gastroenterology Department in Dubuque, IA is seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant to join our West Campus team. You will support nursing staff, schedule patient procedures, and ensure smooth daily operations in a collaborative setting.

The ideal candidate has CMA certification (AAMA/CCMA/AMT) and 3 months to 1 year of related experience; on-the-job training is provided. Knowledge of GI procedures and patient education is valued.

Qualifications

  • Experience: From three months to one year of similar or related experience. Prior experience in a surgical office, surgical hospital floor or OR is a plus, but is not required. On-the-job-training provided, no GI experience required!
  • Education: Equivalent to completion of a specialized course of study or certification at a business or trade school. Must possess a current certification or registration as a Certified Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA through AAMA, CCMA through NHA, or RMA through AMT) or be able to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
  • Other Skills: Keyboarding skills and use of electronic equipment. Use and operate a wide variety of diagnostic and medical equipment. Use personal protection safety equipment including gloves, lab coats, gowns, goggles, and face masks/shields.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with health care team to direct/perform nursing assessment and interventions according to plan of care.
  • Integrate the nursing process in all patient contact, care, diagnostic testing, and treatments. Collect pertinent patient health care data, review medical records and confer/collaborate with physician/mid level providers to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, co workers, and others. Promote patient wellness and provide patient education.
  • Document care provided, including but not limited to: assessment, interventions, medication, patient education, and assist with integrity of medical record.
  • Maintain an office environment that is safe, neat, organized, and supplied with necessary equipment, instruments, supplies, and educational materials. Ensure equipment is functioning safely and properly. Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment according to guidelines.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in performing other additional duties of patient care. Provide input for devising systems to improve quality and efficiency of patient care and workflow. Participate in required meetings.
  • Facilitate reimbursement of services provided, including but not limited to: charge tickets, referrals, and insurance requirements.
  • Complete all other assigned projects and duties.

Medical Associates Gastroenterology department is looking to add a full‑time Certified Medical Assistant to the team at our West Campus! The provider and nursing relationships allow the department to provide superior service to our patients. Within the department you will find a positive and supportive culture that allows you to work independently as well as part of a team.

Within the department you will find a positive and supportive culture that allows you to perform hands‑on GI procedures (Anorectal Manometry, Breath Testing, Video Capsule Endoscopy, etc.)

Schedule/Hours:

72 hours per pay period, 4 days per week. Flexibility in the schedule!

West Campus, 1500 Associates Drive

About the Gastroenterology (Digestive) Department:

The Gastroenterology specialists work closely with our other medical and surgical practitioners for a coordinated approach to patient care. Common conditions treated include:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Acid reflux disease
  • Celiac disease
  • Detection of polyps and cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease including Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Liver disease
Types of Procedures:

This position includes scheduling and educating patients on a wide variety of digestive diseases and screenings, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including:

  • Upper GI endoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Hydrogen breath testing
  • Video capsule endoscopy
  • Esophageal dilatation
  • Therapeutic infusions for chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
