Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our outpatient care teams. You will work under supervision to prepare patients for examinations and support physicians, nurses, and researchers in clinical and clerical tasks.

The CMA will handle patient records, basic lab tasks, and patient history collection, contributing to a high-quality patient experience in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the AAMA or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the NHA required.
• If certified by another agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
• Current CPR certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for exams and assist clinicians with procedures.
• Perform basic clinical nursing support tasks including simple lab tests.
• Maintain patient records and assist with clerical duties.
• Respond to the needs of patients from newborn to geriatric.

Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to perform clinical procedures to prepare patients and/or research participants for treatment or research protocol. To assist physician or other healthcare team member with completion of treatment/protocol. To perform simple, non-invasive patient procedures according to applicable policy and/or protocol. May perform various clerical and/or lab duties as requested. Responds to the unique needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Currently certified as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required. If certified by another accrediting agency, AAMA or NHA certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
