Salary Range: $218,000 – $259,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)
About the Role
Seeking a senior Cloud Software Engineer 3 to leverage advanced data science, machine learning, and cloud computing to solve complex national security analytic challenges in Laurel, MD.
In this role, you will design and develop an evolving suite of operational prototypes utilizing state‑of‑the‑art data science and machine learning techniques for behavioral, geo‑temporal, social, and content analysis. You will work against full‑scale data collection within robust, multi‑tenant cloud environments, operationalizing AI/ML models and Large Language Models (LLMs) to address discovery, attribution, tracking, and information overload challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy operational software prototypes and analytics in multi‑tenant, cloud‑based architectures.
- Implement, fine‑tune, evaluate, and operationalize machine learning models and Large Language Models (LLMs) within production pipelines (MLOps).
- Build and manage containerized microservices and deployments using Docker and Kubernetes within AWS.
- Integrate and optimize structured, graph, document, and analytical databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Neo4j, ClickHouse, Apache Accumulo, MongoDB, DuckDB, SQLite).
- Write and maintain automation scripts in Bash within RHEL 8 and Windows environments.
- Conduct applied research to bridge advanced statistics and machine learning with operational mission workflows.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a current Polygraph.
- ML & MLOps: Minimum 1 year of hands‑on MLOps experience, including fine‑tuning, evaluating, and operationalizing machine learning models and working with LLMs.
- Front‑End & Containers: Hands‑on experience with Angular or React, along with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Cloud & OS: Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and experience across Linux (RHEL 8) and Windows environments.
- Databases: Experience developing against varied data stores (PostgreSQL, Neo4j, ClickHouse, Accumulo, MongoDB, SQLite, or DuckDB).
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building applications with advanced LLMs (e.g., Claude, OpenAI Chat Completions API) and dynamic prompt orchestration.
- 7+ years of combined programming experience across Java, C++, or Python within the last 10 years.
- 5+ years of software design and development experience in Linux/Unix or Windows environments within the last 7 years.
- Hands‑on experience with distributed stream/batch processing frameworks (Ray, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Beam, Databricks) and distributed object/file stores (Amazon S3, HDFS, Azure Data Lake, GCS).
- 6+ months of direct cloud development experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Kubernetes within the past 2 years.
Education & Experience Substitutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, OR
- Associate degree in Computer Science/related discipline plus 2 years of programming experience, OR
- 5 years of programming experience in lieu of a degree.
