Job summary
Salesforce in San Francisco is seeking a senior distributed systems engineer to drive the next generation of data plane and control plane for our service mesh. You will own large areas of the software stack, focusing on reliability, scalability, and secure traffic between thousands of nodes.
You will work with OSS components like Envoy and Istio, contribute to upstream projects, and collaborate across teams on live-site management, deployment strategies, and observability.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience with a strong infrastructure background.
- Experience with Istio/Envoy is a huge plus.
- Proficiency with Golang, Java and/or C++ in a Linux/UNIX data center environment.
- Experience with Kubernetes as a mission-critical service.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies and load balancing.
- Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Spinnaker, Terraform).
- Experience with Agile development (e.g., Scrum) and Test-Driven Development.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical implementation for infrastructure platforms and own roadmaps.
- Build reliable, scalable services and lead end-to-end capability slices.
- Operate large-scale cluster management systems across multiple data centers.
- Collaborate with teams to secure, balance, and proxy north-south traffic.
