Job summary

Groq, Inc. seeks a Kubernetes Platform Engineer to own and evolve our Kubernetes-based infrastructure, building reliable, scalable platform capabilities to support growing cloud workloads.

Based in one of our hiring hubs (Dallas, San Francisco, or New York City area), you will collaborate with engineering teams to deploy and operate workloads, with remote flexibility as we establish the local office and transition to onsite when open.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, development, reliability, and evolution of Groq's Kubernetes-based platform.
• Design and build Kubernetes-based systems that operate reliably and efficiently at scale.
• Build software, automation, and platform capabilities that simplify deployment, operation, and scale.
• Improve resilience, observability, performance, and operational efficiency of the Kubernetes platform.
• Identify and eliminate reliability and scalability bottlenecks across clusters and infrastructure.
• Own platform capabilities through their full lifecycle from design to production operations.
• Partner with software and infrastructure engineers to translate workload requirements into platform capabilities.
• Establish and improve Kubernetes engineering patterns, tooling, and operational practices.
• Debug complex production issues spanning Kubernetes, distributed systems, networking, compute, and cloud infrastructure.
• Help shape the technical direction of the platform as scale and requirements evolve.

Job description

Mission:

Own and evolve the Kubernetes platform and adjacent hyperscaler technologies that underpins Groq's cloud infrastructure. You will build reliable, scalable platform capabilities that enable engineering teams to deploy and operate workloads efficiently as Groq's infrastructure grows.

Location:

This role will be based in one of our three hiring hubs: the Dallas, San Francisco, or New York City area. The person hired for this role must be based in one of these three areas. You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely while we establish our local Groq office, with the expectation that this role will transition to onsite once the office opens.

• Build software, automation, and platform capabilities that simplify how workloads are deployed, operated, and scaled.

• Establish and improve Kubernetes engineering patterns, tooling, and operational practices.
• Debug complex production issues spanning Kubernetes, distributed systems, networking, compute, and cloud infrastructure.
• Help shape the technical direction of the platform as its scale and requirements evolve.

Ideal candidates have/are:

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building and operating production infrastructure.
• Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and proficiency designing Kubernetes-based architectures.
• Experience owning Kubernetes environments in production, including deployment, scaling, upgrades, reliability, and troubleshooting.
• Experience building software and automation for cloud or infrastructure platforms.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and the reliability and scalability challenges of operating infrastructure at scale.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern infrastructure-as-code and automation practices.
• Ability to debug complex problems across application, Kubernetes, networking, compute, and infrastructure layers.
• Comfortable taking end-to-end ownership of production systems and making pragmatic architectural tradeoffs.
• Strong collaborator who can partner across engineering teams and translate their needs into scalable platform solutions.

Compensation

Groq is committed to providing competitive compensation through our Total Cash philosophy, which incorporates potential bonus value directly into base pay. The total cash salary range for this position, which is inclusive of the potential bonus value, is $223,600 - $365,800, with individual placement determined by your geographic location, experience, skills, and alignment with internal compensation standards. This range is specific to candidates located in the United States. Compensation for international candidates will vary based on local market dynamics. Beyond cash compensation, Groq also offers a Long-Term Incentive (LTI) Program and a robust suite of employee benefits.
