Job summary

Virginia ABC is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to automate and operate the infrastructure behind its retail, e‑commerce, and supply chain. You will shape how development teams build and ship software with self-service automation and robust CI/CD.

The role is based in Mechanicsville, VA with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote). You will work across cloud, container, and observability domains to deliver reliable platforms.

Qualifications

  • Four years of DevOps/platform engineering or similar experience.
  • Experience building and running containerized apps with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Automating infrastructure with IaC and config management.
  • Maintaining production Linux and Windows systems and root-cause analysis.

Job description

Job Summary

As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you'll automate, build, and operate the infrastructure behind Virginia ABC's retail stores, e-commerce, and supply chain, including cloud and server platforms, CI/CD pipelines, container platforms, and observability. You'll help shape how our development teams build and deliver software, replacing manual processes with automation and self-service tools that help them ship quickly and reliably.

This position is based at Virginia ABC's Central Office in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and currently follows a hybrid schedule (three days in office, two days remote). Work arrangements are subject to change based on business needs.

Areas of Responsibility
DevOps Engineering and Automation
  • Identifies and automates repetitive manual work to reduce toil.
  • Analyzes existing software development processes and creates optimized continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to build and deliver software.
  • Builds self-service tools and workflows that enable development teams to deploy and manage applications.
  • Develops real-time monitoring for applications and infrastructure across the entire application stack.
  • Implements and manages containerization platforms.
Enterprise Systems and Project Support
  • Builds and maintains cloud infrastructure and platforms.
  • Builds and administers Linux and Windows servers.
  • Administers and troubleshoots application and web servers.
  • Implements and administers load balancing and proxying platforms.
  • Troubleshoots production issues and performs root cause analysis.
  • Applies patches and remediates vulnerabilities identified through security reviews.
  • Customizes the technology stack to support project requirements.
  • Documents system inventory, configurations, designs, and operational procedures.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of release processes, procedures, and schedules.
  • Provides on-call support as needed.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Collaborates with development, network, data, and operations teams.
  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or systems engineering
  • Experience building, deploying, and running containerized applications, with a solid understanding of container concepts such as images, registries, networking, and orchestration
  • Experience automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration using infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices
  • Experience operating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting production Linux and Windows systems, including root cause analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in information systems or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized workloads on Kubernetes (AKS or similar); Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) is a plus
  • Experience deploying and administering cloud infrastructure, including servers and storage, particularly in Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
  • Experience with Ansible (including Ansible Automation Platform/Tower or AWX), Helm, and Python
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Splunk, or similar)
  • Experience deploying and administering web application servers, load balancing, and related middleware such as HAProxy, NGINX, WebLogic, Tomcat, and IIS
  • Experience building self-service tooling or workflows for development teams
  • Experience with NIST (or similar) standards and determining security scan report impacts on infrastructure and business operations
