Job summary
Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Denver, CO is seeking hardware design engineers to design and build next-generation storage servers and AWS-specific hardware components.
You will work with interdisciplinary teams to move concepts into production at scale. You will collaborate across hardware, software, and security disciplines to deliver high-performance, cost-effective server solutions while driving improvements in reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent hardware production experience.
- 5+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems.
- Hands-on experience debugging hardware with analytical tools and methods.
Responsibilities
- Design storage server platforms and AWS-specific hardware components.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver new servers with industry-leading performance and quality.
- Define and deliver new products and services.
- Lead the integration and delivery of servers, and support automation monitoring and failure analysis.
- Work with AWS software teams to tailor and operate server solutions for the AWS environment.
- Support launching servers into production and operating the fleet.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering (HWEng) team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazon’s innovative web services. Our designs are industry-leading in performance, frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our Hardware Engineers solve challenging technology problems, and build architecturally sound, high-quality storage server systems and components to enable AWS to realize critical business strategies.
As a member of the Storage Hardware Engineering team, you’ll be responsible for the design of our storage server platforms and AWS specific hardware components. You will interact with engineers across the company, and work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, development, validation, and the successful implementation of your work at large scale.
This is a fast-paced, challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll constantly look for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. You will work directly with engineers across the company to build next‑generation hardware. You will have a direct impact on our bottom line and the ability to deliver improvements for our customers. - As Storage Server Hardware Engineer you will be responsible for bringing new technology to our server & products as well as scaling how we operate our massive existing & rapidly growing fleet.
- You will collaborate with internal development teams and external suppliers to deliver new servers with industry leading performance and quality
- You will drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services
- You will lead the integration and delivery of servers, support the development of automated monitoring, and failure analysis services to operate, debug, and scale our servers
- You will work closely with other AWS software teams to tailor and operate servers solutions for the AWS environment
- You will support launching our servers into production and operating our fleet of servers

- Experience troubleshooting issues and root cause analysis
- Experience with server, storage, networking, or large‑scale distributed systems
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or experience delivering products to volume production
- 5+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
- Master's degree or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of hands‑on work managing complex technology projects experience
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting, or experience with programming/scripting (Batch, VB, PowerShell, Java, C#, Chef, Perl, Ruby and/or PHP) and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Expertise in product development disciplines such as, thermal, mechanical, power, FW/SW, reliability, and sustaining
- Experience with hands on debug of hardware systems such as with analyzers, oscilloscopes, and JTAG

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
