Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking Software Development Engineers to design, build, and maintain scalable distributed systems powering AWS Network Firewall.

You will collaborate with senior engineers across teams to define requirements and deliver firewall features for cloud-scale networks. The role emphasizes coding in Java, Python, or C++, tackling complex production issues, and contributing to CI/CD processes in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for large-scale systems.
• 1+ years building multi-threaded or distributed software applications.
• 1+ years designing and developing software using Java, Python, C++, or Perl.
• 1+ years of OO design.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software language.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance distributed systems powering AWS Network Firewall.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code in Java, Python, or C++ to protect customer networks at cloud scale.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to define requirements and architect solutions for firewall features.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems and participate in on-call rotations.
• Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and documentation to uphold engineering best practices.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle—from design to deployment and monitoring in CI/CD.
• Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and security while reducing operational burden through automation.
