Job summary

FinOps Weekly in the United States seeks an AWS FinOps Engineer to improve cloud financial management, cost optimization, and governance across AWS environments. You will partner with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Finance, and procurement to align cloud spending with business priorities.

This role combines AWS technical expertise with automation and FinOps best practices, applying Inform-Optimize-Operate lifecycle to deliver cost visibility, budgets, forecasts, and scalable cost controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of AWS cloud experience.
  • 3+ years in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or related discipline.
  • Experience managing costs in enterprise AWS environments.

Responsibilities

  • Implement FinOps practices across AWS using Inform, Optimize, and Operate.
  • Analyze cloud spend and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Produce cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive insights.
  • Build automated cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance controls.

# Cloud Fin/Ops EngineerUnited StatesFinOps50k – 100k10/10/2026Full-timeHybrid## Job Description## About the RoleThe AWS FinOps Engineer is responsible for improving cloud financial management, cost optimization, and financial accountability across AWS environments. This role works closely with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Finance, procurement, and business stakeholders to support efficient cloud investment decisions and align spending with business priorities.The position combines AWS technical expertise, automation and coding experience, and practical FinOps knowledge. It is focused on applying the Inform, Optimize, and Operate lifecycle to strengthen governance, improve visibility into cloud spend, and support better planning and decision-making.In addition to day-to-day optimization work, the role contributes to architecture reviews and ongoing cost review sessions. The goal is to help teams build solutions that are cost-efficient, scalable, reliable, and accountable.## Key Responsibilities– Implement and mature FinOps practices across AWS environments using the Inform, Optimize, and Operate framework. – Analyze AWS spend trends and recommend actions to reduce costs and improve efficiency. – Develop cloud cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive-level insights. – Manage AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Organizations, AWS Budgets, Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances. – Build automated solutions for cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance. – Partner with application, platform, and business teams to identify optimization opportunities. – Participate in architecture reviews to support cost efficiency, reliability, and scalability. – Drive continuous improvement through automation, operational excellence, and cloud cost accountability. – Develop forecasts, budgets, unit-cost measures, and scenario analyses tied to business outcomes. – Evaluate and administer AWS pricing-model strategies and commitment-based discounts. – Monitor utilization and coverage, and manage financial risk within governance processes. – Automate recurring FinOps controls and workflows using infrastructure as code, APIs, scripts, event-driven services, and CI/CD integrations. – Facilitate regular cost review and optimization working sessions with technical, finance, procurement, and business stakeholders. – Maintain a prioritized backlog of actions, owners, expected benefits, and realized outcomes.## Required Skills– Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. – 3+ years of AWS cloud experience. – 3+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or a related discipline. – Experience managing costs in enterprise AWS environments. – Strong understanding of cloud economics, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation methodologies.## Preferred Skills– Experience implementing enterprise FinOps programs and governance models. – Experience supporting cloud migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives. – Ability to communicate technical and financial concepts effectively to business and executive stakeholders.## Cloud Platforms & Technologies### Cloud Providers – AWS – AWS Organizations – AWS Cost Explorer – AWS Budgets – AWS Cost & Usage Reports (CUR)### FinOps Platforms – Savings Plans – Reserved Instances### Infrastructure as Code – Infrastructure as code### CI/CD – CI/CD integrations### Programming Languages – APIs – Scripts### Event-Driven / Automation – Event-driven services## FinOps Responsibilities– Implement FinOps practices across AWS using the Inform, Optimize, and Operate lifecycle. – Analyze cloud spend and identify cost reduction opportunities. – Produce cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive insights. – Build automated cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance controls. – Develop budgets, forecasts, unit-cost measures, and scenario analyses. – Manage Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and other commitment-based discount strategies. – Monitor utilization, coverage, and associated financial risk. – Automate recurring FinOps controls, including budget alerts, anomaly notifications, rightsizing recommendations, resource scheduling controls, and policy checks. – Lead recurring cost review and optimization sessions with stakeholders. – Maintain action tracking for ownership, expected savings, and realized results.## Benefits– Health care benefits – Flexible spending accounts – 401(k) plan with an 8% employer match – Parental leave – Accrued paid time off – Life insurance – Disability coverage – Employee assistance program – Other life and work well-being benefits – Flexible work environment## Why You Might Be InterestedThis role offers the opportunity to apply FinOps discipline in a large AWS environment with direct exposure to cloud engineering, finance, procurement, and business teams.
