Job summary

Allstate is seeking a Platform Engineer Lead Consultant, a full stack engineer who builds the cloud application development and hosting platforms for Allstate. You will own, develop, implement and operate Allstate's cloud platforms and lead paired programming teams to deliver scalable services.

You will advance CI/CD practices, automate infrastructure as code, and mentor engineers while ensuring SLAs are met and customer requests are handled.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in platform engineering or related cloud engineering roles.

Job Description

The Platform Engineer is a full stack engineer who builds the cloud application development and hosting platforms for Allstate. This role will have the primary accountability of owning, developing, implementing and operating Allstate's Cloud platforms. This role will also encompass developing, building, administering, and deploying self-service tools that enable Allstate developers to build, deploy and operate cloud native applications. As a Platform Engineer Lead Consultant, they will be a team anchor for engineering teams primarily working in a paired programming team, collaborating with different team members. They anchor the shared and collective knowledge of the team about the system they own and manage. They will lead a team in engineering and building out new platform products and services. They will lead the team and ensure that SLAs are met in executing operational tasks to maintain the platform and servicing customer requests. They will lead the engineering practices to improve the efficiency of the system itself, and the efficiency of the team in running said system. They will serve as a team anchor and establish practices for paired programming, test driven development, infrastructure engineering, and continuous delivery on the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Recommends and maintains technology related policies and procedures
• Identifies and troubleshoots any availability and performance issues at multiple layers of deployment, from hardware, operating environment, network and application
• Designs, builds, manages and operates the infrastructure as a service layer (hosted and cloud-based platforms) that supports the different platform services
• Designs, builds, manages and operates the continuous delivery framework and tools, manages and automates the lifecycle of the different platform components, and acts as a subject matter expert on CI/CD for developer teams
• Leads a team's engineering practices around test driven and continuous delivery of infrastructure
• Designs, builds, manages and operate the infrastructure and configuration of the platform infrastructure and application environments with a focus on automation and infrastructure as code
• Evaluates performance trends and expected changes in demand and capacity; and establish the appropriate scalability plans
• Integrates different components and develop new services with a focus on open source to allow a minimal friction developer interaction with the platform and application services
• Develops a log analytics solution to provide logging-as-a-service to hosted applications based on open source solutions
• Develops comprehensive monitoring solutions to provide full visibility to the different platform components using tools and services like Graphite, ELK, Datadog, New Relic and other similar tools

Compensation
