Semper Valens Solutions is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, and manage hybrid cloud infrastructures in a large Air Force IT enterprise in San Antonio, TX. The role requires DoD clearance eligibility and hands‑on experience with VMware, AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, and IaC tools, along with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.

You will support CI/CD pipelines, enforce security within a DevSecOps framework, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to audits and compliance

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies, including VMware, Hyper‑V, and OpenStack.
  • Strong expertise in US Gov/DoD cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI.
  • Hands‑on experience with IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and incident management.

Job Description:

Semper Valens Solutions is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to support a large Air Force, IT enterprise, Cyber Weapons System/Program in San Antonio, TX.

Duties:

  • Design, deploy, and manage virtual cloud infrastructures across hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud) such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud (IaaS & PaaS).
  • Ensure integration of multiple Cloud teams, processes, and instances to meet a holistic solution.
  • Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, and cloud-native virtualization solutions.
  • Automate deployments and configurations using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Provision, maintain, and scale cloud resources in AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor cloud resource utilization to ensure cost efficiency and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and infrastructure issues, performing root cause analysis as needed.
  • Ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and operational standards within a DevSecOps framework.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and integrate infrastructure automation into the development lifecycle.
  • Implement and manage containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, for microservices architectures.
  • Configure and maintain monitoring tools to ensure system and application availability and performance.
  • Identify and implement optimizations to improve efficiency, reduce latency, and enhance system uptime.
  • Apply security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), network segmentation, and encryption, to protect hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Assist in audits and compliance initiatives (e.g., RMF, NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth and development initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Detailed-oriented with excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies, including VMware, Hyper‑V, and OpenStack.
  • Strong expertise in US‑Gov/DoD cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.) and incident management.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, VPNs, and firwalls.
  • Practical knowledge of DevSecOps principles, methodologies, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Requires BS and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Master's degree with 6+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have DoD‑8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
  • Must have an advanced cloud certification (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer for example).
  • Must have an active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI

Preferred Skills and Certifications:

  • Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer.
  • Security Certifications: CISSP, CEH, GIAC or Cloud Security Automation (GCSA).
  • Experience with security frameworks (e.g., RMF, NIST 800‑53).
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with log management and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, or ELK stack).
  • Experience with SIEM and/or SOAR tools and capabilities.

Travel:

Less than 10% travel is expected for this position. Travel may include continental United States and outside continental United States locations.
