Job description

Job Description

Join the Technical Consulting Team

Our Technical Consulting Services team within Professional Services is dedicated to delivering cutting edge technology implementation and consulting services. We focus on comprehensive custom utilities, data migrations, software conversions, advanced reporting, and automation and API driven solutions. Our mission is to empower clients by enhancing their operational efficiency through innovative and tailored technology solutions.

We are seeking a Cloud Engineer, Professional Services to drive continuous improvement and modernization of how Tech Consulting builds, deploys, and operates cloud infrastructure. While this position carries the title of Cloud Engineer, it operates with a different scope than a Cloud Engineer on the core Engineering team. This role sits inside Professional Services and works directly against the needs of a billable consulting practice, introducing modern CI/CD and cloud native patterns, and building the AI enabled workflows that support the team's client delivery work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modernize the Release Process for TC: Lead continuous improvement of the team's deployment approach, introducing automated CI/CD pipelines and modern release patterns. You'll design and maintain pipelines using GitHub Actions or equivalent tools, automate deployment, patching, and configuration wherever possible, and raise the bar on how efficiently the team ships.

  • Architect and Deploy New Cloud Solutions: Own the build out of AWS infrastructure supporting Tech Consulting's applications, including EC2, S3, ALB, and Lambda based components. Bring infrastructure as code practices to new and existing work, evaluate opportunities to adopt containers or serverless patterns, and make sound architecture decisions as new client solutions come online.

  • Create AI Workflows and Automations for the Team: Build and maintain AI enabled workflows and automations that make the broader Technical Consulting team faster and more effective, whether that's automating a recurring engineering task, prototyping an AI assisted tool, or identifying where automation can remove repetitive manual work across the team.

  • Directly Support Billable Delivery: Unlike a purely internal infrastructure role, your work has a direct line to client delivery. You'll support the technical infrastructure behind billable tech consulting engagements and AI tools, meaning reliability, deployment speed, and infrastructure decisions all have a visible impact on client outcomes, not just internal operations.

  • Support Enterprise Application Environments: Support applications hosted in Windows Server and IIS environments, and maintain solid SQL skills for schema changes and troubleshooting queries, as part of the team's broader technology footprint.

  • Monitor and Troubleshoot: Keep an eye on system health and performance using tools like Datadog or CloudWatch, and diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues in both production and staging environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a cloud engineering, DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering role.

  • Hands‑on experience with core AWS services: EC2, S3, ALB, and Lambda.

  • Comfortable using AI codegen tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code as part of your regular workflow.

  • Experience with GitHub Actions or a similar tool for building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

  • Solid SQL skills, comfortable writing both schema changes (DDL) and troubleshooting queries (DML).

  • Basic to intermediate Docker experience, with Kubernetes familiarity a plus.

  • Comfortable working in a Windows Server and IIS environment.

  • A builder's mindset. You look at a manual, repetitive process and see an opportunity to automate it, whether that's a deployment pipeline or an internal AI workflow.

  • Strong communication skills. Because this role touches billable consulting work, you're able to explain infrastructure decisions and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Comfort with ambiguity. Much of what this role improves doesn't have an established playbook yet, you'll be building it.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS certification (SysOps Administrator, Solutions Architect Associate).

  • Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash).

  • Exposure to Azure or GCP, though AWS is primary.

  • Work Schedule

  • Availability outside normal business hours as needed for deployments, patching windows, or incident response.
