Job summary

Spry Methods is seeking a Mid-Level Cloud Engineer to migrate and modernize mission-critical apps in AWS GovCloud (US). You will lead secure lift-and-shift migrations of SQL Server-based systems and document all steps for audit readiness.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in cloud infra, hands-on AWS GovCloud, and strong security/compliance mindset in Agile teams.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret Security Clearance required.
• 3–5 years in cloud engineering or related infrastructure roles.
• Hands-on AWS GovCloud experience and lift-and-shift migrations.
• Experience with Windows Server environments and IA C capabilities.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and Agile/Scrum workflows.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain AWS GovCloud infrastructure.
• Execute lift-and-shift migrations of on-prem workloads.
• Map dependencies to minimize downtime during migration.
• Configure VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs.
• Manage EC2, EBS, load balancers, IAM, and backups.
• Support HA, DR, and failover configurations.
• Monitor performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues.
• Follow FedRAMP/NIST-aligned security practices.
• Produce architecture docs, SOPs, and runbooks.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and sprint planning.

Who We're Looking For (Position Overview):

We are seeking a Mid-Level Cloud Engineer to support the migration and modernization of mission-critical applications within AWS GovCloud (US). This role will focus on executing a secure lift-and-shift migration of a complex SQL Server-based application with numerous interconnected system dependencies.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure, strong troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of secure cloud environments support federal/government workloads. This individual will work in an Agile team environment and contribute to documentation, implementation, and operational sustainment efforts

What Your Day-To-Day Looks Like (Position Responsibilities):

• Design, deploy, and maintain infrastructure within AWS GovCloud (US) environments
• Execute lift-and-shit migration of on-premises workloads, including SQL Server databases, application servers, dependent services and integrations
• Analyze and map application dependencies to ensure seamless migration and minimal downtime
• Implement cloud networking components (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs)
• Configure and manage EC2, EBS, load balancers, IAM policies, and backup solutions
• Support high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and failover configuration
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues
• Apply security best practices aligned with federal compliance requirements
• Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation (architecture diagrams, SOPs, runbooks, migration plans)
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives)

What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Requirements):

• Active Top Secret Security Clearance
• 3-5 years of experience in cloud engineering or related infrastructure roles
• Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud
• Experience migrating on-premises workloads to cloud environments (lift-and-shift preferred)
• Experience in managing Windows Server environments
• Familiarity with core AWS fundamentals such as: VPC design and networking fundamentals, IAM and least-privilege access controls, backup and disaster recovery strategies
• Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Ideally, You Also Have (Preferred Qualifications):

• AWS certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional)
• Experience supporting government cloud environments
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with configuration management tools
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST)

Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, technical qualifications, certifications, clearance level, and contract requirements.
