Job summary

Valtech is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer in the United States to push the boundaries of experience innovation. You bring 7+ years in cloud/infrastructure and deep Google Cloud Platform expertise to design, deploy and secure scalable infrastructure.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and help shape resilient, cost-efficient platforms while leveraging AI assistants to speed up delivery and documentation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in cloud or infrastructure engineering, incl. 3+ years hands-on with Google Cloud Platform.
• Expert-level infrastructure and networking within GCP: VPC, firewalls, load balancing, DNS, shared VPC, VPN/Interconnect.
• Hands-on Terraform for IaC.
• Core GCP services: Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, IAM.
• CI/CD tools experience; Python or Bash.
• Designing landing zones, governance on GCP.
• AI-native delivery using Gemini/Claude for code, docs, troubleshooting.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical work.
• Strong comms and collaboration with client teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and manage secure GCP infrastructure with Terraform.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infra changes with code reviews.
• Design and operate cloud networking including VPC, DNS, and load balancing.
• Set up hybrid connectivity with VPN or Interconnect.
• Apply IAM least privilege and policy controls across projects.
• Set up monitoring and logging with Google Cloud Ops, Prometheus or Grafana.
• Improve availability, performance and cost efficiency; support incident response.
• Automate recurring tasks with Python or Bash.
• Leverage AI assistants to develop code and speed up docs.
• Set infrastructure standards and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with app, security and delivery teams; document designs/runbooks.

Role responsibilities:

• Design, deploy and manage secure GCP infrastructure with Terraform, including reusable modules, remote state and environment promotion.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure changes, with code review, policy checks and automated validation.
• Design and operate cloud networking: VPC architectures, subnets, firewall rules, Cloud NAT, Cloud DNS and load balancing.
• Set up hybrid connectivity with Cloud VPN or Cloud Interconnect and manage shared networking across projects.
• Apply IAM least privilege, organization policies, service accounts and secrets management across projects.
• Set up monitoring, logging and alerting with Google Cloud Operations Suite, Prometheus or Grafana.
• Improve availability, performance and cost efficiency, and support incident response and root cause analysis.
• Automate recurring operational tasks with Python or Bash.
• Use AI assistants such as Gemini and Claude to develop and review infrastructure code, and to speed up documentation and troubleshooting.
• Set infrastructure standards, review changes and mentor other engineers.
• Work with application, security and delivery teams, and document designs and runbooks.

Must have qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

• [7+ years] in cloud or infrastructure engineering, including [3+ years] of hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform.
• Expert-level infrastructure and networking skills within GCP, including VPC design, firewalls, load balancing, DNS, shared VPC, and VPN or Interconnect.
• Hands‑on experience with Terraform building and maintaining infrastructure as code.
• Working knowledge of core GCP services such as Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage and IAM.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and Python or Bash
• Experience designing landing zones, resource hierarchy and governance on GCP.
• Experience with AI‑native delivery, using AI assistants to develop code and automate infrastructure work, with familiarity with Gemini and Claude.
• Experience guiding technical work or mentoring other engineers.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with client teams.

Nice to have qualifications

• Google Cloud certification, such as Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer or Professional Cloud Network Engineer.
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
• Experience with data center to GCP migrations.
• Experience operating Kubernetes (GKE)
• Experience with observability tools such as Cloud Operations Suite, Prometheus and Grafana.
