Job summary

Peraton is seeking a senior cloud engineer/architect in Austin, TX to design and deliver secure, scalable cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructure for the VA mission portfolio. You will lead migrations, optimize workloads, and create IaC modules, partnering with cybersecurity liaisons to maintain FedRAMP/VA CRISP alignment.

The role requires 8+ years of cloud experience with Azure and/or AWS, and hands-on skills in Terraform, Ansible, Python, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Design and engineer secure, scalable, resilient cloud and hybrid-cloud infrastructure solutions supporting the VA mission portfolio.
• Lead implementation, migration, and optimization of cloud workloads (VMs, containers, PaaS, data services).
• Author reference architectures and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) modules; enforce security and cost baselines.
• Partner with cybersecurity liaisons to steward continuous ATO for cloud services (FedRAMP / VA CRISP alignment).

Requirements

• Currently possess or be able to obtain VA Public Trust — High Risk (BI High) / Tier 4 background investigation.
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; 8+years of cloud engineering / architecture experience.
• Education substitutions (per Peraton Career & Compensation Framework): Master's degree substitutes ~2 years of required experience; Ph.D. substitutes ~5 years of required experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience is acceptable (Associate's degree + 2 additional years also accepted for equivalent professional levels).
• Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (and/or AWS) production workloads.

Desired Skills, Tools & Certifications

• Tools: Microsoft Azure (VMs, App Service, Data Factory, Sentinel), AWS where applicable, Terraform / ARM / Bicep, Ansible, GitHub / GitLab CI, Python, PowerShell, and ServiceNow.
• Processes: ITIL v4 service management, SAFe Agile / Scrum for iterative delivery, NIST 800-53 / RMF, ISO 27001, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC 9.9, VA CRISP alignment, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA safety practices.; FedRAMP; VA CRISP.
• Certifications (desirable): Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect / Data Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, Kubernetes CKA/CKAD, CISSP or CCSP for security-track candidates., ITIL v4 Foundation (Practitioner/Managing Professional a plus), SAFe Practitioner or SAFe DevOps.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
