Capital One is seeking a Cloud Engineer 4 to lead cloud initiatives and drive reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency. You will mentor a team, collaborate with product managers, and implement cloud-native patterns across architectures in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll work with Java, Scala, Python, Go, and Node.js, and leverage Docker and Kubernetes to build scalable cloud platforms that meet regulatory needs. This role emphasizes ownership and continuous improvement.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS or related field.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years of cloud engineering experience.
• Experience with Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
• Experience with public cloud platforms and IaC tools.

Cloud Engineer 4 (Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering)

As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the adoption and responsible use of emerging AI and automation capabilities to improve the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of cloud platforms and engineering workflows
• Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community
• Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
• Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, Go, and Node.js, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of cloud provider tools and services
• Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence
• Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks
• Proactively identify areas for improvement and contribute to efforts that ensure well-managed cloud solutions
• Influence long-term technology strategy through evaluation of emerging tools and practices in a ‘you build it, you own it’ environment
• Integrate risk awareness into daily work, proactively considering potential issues related to cybersecurity, regulatory compliance (OBL, SOX), audits, and change management.
• Lead the technical strategy for a portfolio of cloud initiatives and mentor a team of developers building scalable cloud platforms that support the company’s regulatory needs

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)
• At least 2 years of experience in cloud engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6+ years of experience coding with at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js
• 3+ years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI)
• 3+ years of experience in CI/CD orchestration, Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, Crossplane), and Automated Governance using Policy-as-Code DSLs (e.g. OPA)
• One or more active certifications related to cloud infrastructure management or security
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native patterns (e.g., Kubernetes, Serverless)
• Experience designing and supporting cloud networking, security and identity integrations
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting production cloud environments
• Experience leveraging AI-driven tooling to automate cloud operations, improve platform reliability, or optimize infrastructure performance and cost
• Experience driving cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100 for Cloud Engineer 4

Richmond, VA: $179,400 - $204,700 for Cloud Engineer 4

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
