Overview

This Cisco job posting describes a Cloud Engineer role within the Cloud Software & Solutions (CSS) group of the Cisco Common Platform Services (CCPS) organization. The CSS group designs and develops OpenStack and Kubernetes platform solutions with emphasis on quality, stability, simplification, user experience, scalability, performance, and portability. The role focuses on building scalable cloud-native applications and services.

Base pay range: $101,400.00/yr - $144,000.00/yr. Applications are accepted until further notice.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cloud Engineer in the CSS group, you will design and develop cloud-native applications using Go and Python. You will build microservices, distributed systems, APIs, serverless functions, and event-driven solutions, and create automation tools and internal developer platforms. You will ensure robust monitoring, logging, and observability, and write thorough tests and documentation.

You will design and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and deploy applications across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. You will maintain CI/CD pipelines, optimize performance and cost, uphold security and compliance standards, and address production issues as part of day-to-day work.

Collaboration is essential: you will work with product teams to translate requirements into technical solutions, participate in architecture reviews, and coordinate with DevOps and SRE teams to drive platform improvements.

Required Qualifications

• BS or MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science (or related field) with 2+ years of software development experience
• Proficient in Go and Python; experienced with REST/gRPC/GraphQL APIs
• Skilled with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiar with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and version control (Git)
• Knowledgeable in networking, security, distributed systems, CI/CD practices, and monitoring/observability tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with testing frameworks, test-driven development, and using AI tools
• Skills with message queues, event streaming (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS), and serverless computing (e.g., AWS Lambda)
• Knowledge of service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
• Understanding of security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI-DSS, GDPR)
• Experience with performance optimization and scalability challenges
