Job summary

State of North Carolina is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer Expert to support the DMV NCMAX Cloud infrastructure build in Raleigh, NC. You will act as the technical bridge between NCDIT-T and vendors, focusing on cloud architecture, security, and IaC.

The role centers on designing secure, scalable Azure infrastructure from scratch, enabling developers to deploy applications efficiently while meeting enterprise security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software and infrastructure solutions for cloud-based operating environments.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using DevOps methodologies and version control.
  • Develop descriptive infrastructure models to define and deploy networks, virtual machines, load balancers, connection topologies, and other cloud resources.
  • Design and implement reliable, scalable, and secure cloud platforms that enable developers to build and deploy applications.
  • Design, implement, configure, and manage cloud network infrastructure.
  • Deploy and configure cloud-based networking solutions to ensure high performance, reliability, and security.
  • Support the development of the Azure cloud tenant from the ground up.
  • Provide technical expertise related to cloud infrastructure, networking, storage, and security.
  • Serve as a technical bridge between NCDIT-T teams and external vendors.
  • Help evaluate and implement cloud infrastructure solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and security requirements.
  • Apply DevOps principles, practices, and tools throughout cloud infrastructure development and deployment.

Job Summary:

NCDIT-Transportation (NCDIT-T) Infrastructure Team is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer Expert to support the ongoing DMV NCMAX Cloud infrastructure build.

The primary focus of this role is to help NCDIT-T understand the cloud architecture and serve as a technical bridge between NCDIT-T and vendors, leveraging strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, networking, storage, security, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

The selected candidate will play a critical role in helping NCDIT-T and DMV build an Azure cloud tenant from scratch to support the DMV modernization initiative. The project operates on an aggressive schedule and requires strong technical expertise in designing secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure.

Important:
  • All candidates must be local to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill (Triangle) region of North Carolina.
  • The position is primarily remote/hybrid but may require onsite attendance based on business needs.
  • The candidate must report onsite on the first day to collect equipment and is likely required to be onsite during the first week for onboarding and knowledge transfer.
  • Statewide travel is required. Contractors must use their own vehicle for business travel; state vehicles are not permitted for contractors.

Work Location Requirements:
  • Hybrid position primarily remote.
  • Candidate must currently reside in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area.
