enGen seeks a mid-level Database Administrator with strong GCP and SQL Server background. You will manage cloud-based and on-prem databases, implement IaC with Terraform, and automate tasks using Python and Google Cloud CLI/SDK. Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED.

  • Google Certifications a plus.
  • Licenses or Certifications: Vendor DBA Certifications for the relevant DBMS.
  • Work Experience: Health insurance business knowledge.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience.
  • Database Management: Solid understanding of GCP database services (Cloud SQL PostgreSQL, Cloud Spanner, AlloyDB).
  • Cloud Expertise: Experience in Google Cloud Platform with AWS as a plus.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency in Terraform with custom providers/modules and state management.
  • Version Control: Git for source code management.
  • GCP Tools: Google Cloud CLI and SDK for automation.
  • Programming & Automation: Python programming for cloud-native apps and automation.
  • Containerized Development: Cloud Run experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create, develop and review physical data models from logical models.
  • Provide DBMS support for staff and external divisions; automated monitoring for space and availability.
  • Establish best practices for high availability via third-party tools and database features.
  • Provide applications support across OS (Z/OS, UNIX, Linux, Windows) and vendor coordination.
  • Root cause analysis and vendor coordination to resolve issues rapidly.
  • After-hours and on-call support for DB tasks, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Document technical standards, procedures, and compliance with corporate policies.
  • Train developers on database access and maintenance practices.
  • Collaborate on inter-department projects and evaluate tools for DB management.
  • Maintain industry contacts for trends in healthcare DB environments.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a mid-level Database Administrator to join our team. This position requires experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and a foundational understanding of on-prem Microsoft SQL Server. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure as code, demonstrated by proficiency in Terraform, including the development and management of custom Terraform providers/modules. Version control expertise using Git is essential, along with hands‑on experience utilizing the Google Cloud CLI and SDK for automation and resource management. A background in Python programming is preferred, particularly for developing and deploying applications on Cloud Run and automating DBA tasks. Candidates should have experience with GCP's managed database services, including Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, Spanner, and AlloyDB. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within an experienced team, contributing to the support and evolution of critical database systems that underpin both our provider and payer side operations. Candidates should be capable of working independently on routine database administration tasks, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating effectively with application teams and vendors on customer projects with limited guidance.

Duties include

  • Database Operations & Performance: Manage the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance tuning. This includes monitoring, capacity planning, and optimizing queries.
  • Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and patch.
  • Backup & Recovery: Maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Monitor and maintain existing HA/DR solutions (e.g., Always On Availability Groups) and assist with their implementation.
  • Security Management: Manage logins, users, roles, permissions, and ensuring compliance with security policies.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, providing support to application teams, vendors, and participating in incident resolution.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for database systems and processes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create, develop, and review the physical model created from the logical model, ensuring that the detailed physical design of data structures and databases complies with standards, guidelines and procedures recommended for all aspects of data modeling, database design, and maintenance. Provide support for application staff and business areas regarding database implementations, which could include a customized in-house database and/or a third party application package. Establish automated monitor mechanism for space and database availability conditions. Establish best practices for database and application high availability through the use of third party technologies and through the exploitation of various database features.
  • Provide applications support for staff, as well as, outside division to answer questions and resolve problems related to the DBMS technology and computing platform such as Z/OS, UNIX, Linux, and Windows. Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems impacting application and/or database availability and service levels. Contact vendor support when necessary to facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
  • Provide after hours and weekend support as required for on call responsibilities, database refreshes, testing, technology upgrades, and other off hour assignments.
  • Participate in establishing and maintaining technical standards, departmental procedures, and other technical documentation as required. Assure compliance to required Corporate standards, procedures, guidelines and processes, including audits.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and providing technology training to the application developers of the organization (formal and informal). Participate in staff training opportunities (formal and informal) relative to rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
  • Participate as assigned to intra and inter-departmental project initiatives. Participate as assigned in the testing and recommendation of tools and utilities to improve the effectiveness of managing and supporting the database environments.
  • Maintain contacts with other DBA professionals externally in other Health Insurance/Health Care industries and/or other industries to maintain a perspective of current trends and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • High school diploma GED
  • 1-3 years of experience in Information Technology

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or closely related field
  • Google Certifications a plus
  • Licenses or Certifications: Vendor DBA Certifications for the relevant DBMS
  • Work Experience: Health insurance business knowledge.

  • Database Management: Solid understanding and practical experience with GCP database services, including Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), Cloud Spanner, and AlloyDB
  • Cloud Expertise: Experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with an understanding of its services and best practices. Other cloud platform experience such as AWS is a plus
  • Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency in Terraform, including experience with custom Terraform providers, modules, and state management.
  • Version Control: Previous experience using Git for source code management, branching strategies, and collaborative development.
  • GCP Tools: Hands‑on experience with the Google Cloud CLI and SDK for automation, scripting, and resource interaction.
  • Programming & Automation: Experience in Python programming, with a focus on cloud‑native application development and automation.
  • Containerized Development: Experience in developing and deploying applications on Cloud Run
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and fine‑tuning models like Claude for specific data‑related tasks.
  • Experience in automating routine database administration tasks using scripting and AI tools.
  • AI tools such as Gemini, Claude, Duo, Copilot
  • Experience with Sql Server databases is a plus
  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a plus.
  • Scripting proficiency in PowerShell a plus
  • Knowledge of SolarWinds DPA for performance tuning, monitoring, and SQL a plus
  • On-prem mySql on Linux a plus

Pay Range Minimum: $79,300.00

Pay Range Maximum: $127,100.00

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations.
