Position Responsibilities:
We are seeking an Expert Cloud Architect to serve as a senior technical leader within a Hybrid Cloud Platform team, working at the intersection of enterprise architecture strategy and hands-on infrastructure delivery. This role will involve direct collaboration with principal architects and stakeholders to shape the technical direction and ensure delivery at scale. You will own and address the platform's most complex challenges related to automation, cross-cloud connectivity, landing zone architecture, and integration while remaining hands-on with code, particularly with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code delivery.
- Hybrid Cloud Architecture & Technical Direction:
- Lead architectural development across AWS, Azure, and private/hybrid environments to ensure scalability, security, and operational excellence.
- Shape and evolve the technical roadmap, working closely with principal engineers and architects.
- Design network, subscription, and identity federation strategies to enhance connectivity and security.
- Drive consensus on architecture direction by establishing architecture decision records, principles, and frameworks.
- Research and recommend emerging technologies, balance build/buy/adopt decisions, and guide the adoption process for new tools or patterns.
- Lead and review architecture for high-impact and high-risk initiatives, making binding technical decisions.
- Develop and maintain reusable Terraform module libraries, implementing secure, scalable, and version-controlled patterns.
- Architect and implement advanced CI/CD practices with tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions for multi-environment delivery.
- Automate infrastructure operations, including deployment gates, drift detection, self-healing, and compliance as code.
- Build and operate Kubernetes platforms (AKS/EKS), deploying production-grade infrastructure with RBAC, ingress, GitOps, and network/security best practices.
- Solve challenging issues including complex module refactoring, provider upgrades, cross-account orchestration, and infrastructure state migrations.
- Create proofs-of-concept and reference implementations to accelerate team delivery and adoption.
- Lead cross-team architecture sessions to align standards, patterns, and technical approaches.
- Serve as the expert escalation point for complex technical challenges—unblocking and mentoring senior architects and engineers.
- Define and uphold governance for code reviews, module contributions, and quality gates for infrastructure code libraries.
- Mentor, coach, and elevate engineering practices through technical pairing, design sessions, and documentation-as-code standards.
- Promote a DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and continuous improvement mindset across the team.
- Foster strong engineering culture through guilds, communities of practice, and cross-functional leadership forums.
- Translate intricate cloud and infrastructure tradeoffs for non-technical leadership and stakeholders.
- Enterprise & Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Partner with broader architecture, security, compliance, and networking teams to establish platform standards and policies.
- Influence and implement governance frameworks such as Azure Policy, AWS SCPs, resource tagging, and lifecycle management.
- Define observability strategies spanning logging, distributed tracing, alerting, and AIOps integrations.
- Guide and support disaster recovery, business continuity, and ransomware resilience at the platform level.
- Shape and participate in vendor discussions, providing input to roadmap planning and new feature requirements.
- Represent platform interests in enterprise architecture and governance boards.
- Design and support infrastructure for AI/ML platforms, including GPU scheduling, model serving, and MLOps pipelines.
- Tools & Technologies:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and hybrid/private cloud platforms
- Terraform (enterprise modules, multi-environment management), Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions
- Kubernetes (AKS, EKS), GitOps workflows, Service Mesh (Istio, etc.)
- Observability systems: centralized logging, tracing, alerting, AIOps
- Identity federation (SAML/OIDC), zero-trust architecture, secrets management
- Enterprise landing zones, cost optimization (FinOps), security enforcement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 8+ years in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or cloud architecture roles in enterprise environments.
- At least 5 years of advanced Terraform experience, building and governing enterprise-scale module libraries.
- Minimum of 4 years designing and operating CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar), supporting multi-environment deployments.
- 3+ years in a technical architecture or team leadership position, influencing standards and resolving escalated issues.
- Demonstrated multi-cloud background (both AWS and Azure), including successful delivery of hybrid solutions.
- History of successfully delivering large-scale, cross-domain infrastructure solutions (networking, security, compute, automation).
- Experience participating in or leading Agile/Scrum teams.
- Preferred:
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate or equivalent IaC certification
- Kubernetes certification (CKA/CKAD) or strong production container platform background
- Expertise in advanced networking (ExpressRoute, vWAN, transit gateways, SD-WAN, BGP routing)
- Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure, GPU compute, and MLOps pipelines
- Background in platform engineering practices, cost optimization, and compliance-as-code
- Excellent architecture communication, documentation, and mentoring skills
- Proven ability to influence technology strategy beyond an immediate team or department
