Job summary

Shrub Oak International School is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) to provide comprehensive clinical services on-site for autistic students from a diverse range of ages. You will conduct biopsychosocial assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver evidence-informed therapy across school, residential, and community settings.

The role requires NY licensure, 3+ years of clinical experience, and a strong commitment to trauma-informed care and interdisciplinary

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Creative Arts Therapy, Psychology, or related field.
  • Current New York State licensure in good standing as an LMHC, LCSW, LMSW, LCAT, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience providing assessment and psychotherapy services.
  • Experience working with autistic individuals or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors and crisis situations.
  • Pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools) training or willingness to obtain.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial, behavioral, and social‑emotional assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment goals, including ITEPs, FBAs, and BIPs as appropriate.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence‑informed, trauma‑informed interventions.
  • Collect and analyze clinical and behavioral data to guide treatment decisions and measure progress.
  • Provide clinical consultation across classroom, residential, and community settings.
  • Respond to behavioral and psychiatric crises and participate in TCIS interventions.
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Collaborate with education, residential, psychiatry, nursing, mental health, behavior analysis, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech‑language pathology, and families to coordinate care.
  • Participate in admissions, treatment planning, quarterly reviews, transition planning, and discharge planning.
  • Promote consistency of therapeutic and behavioral support across settings.
Family Partnership
  • Provide family therapy, caregiver support, and parent coaching.
  • Maintain regular communication with families to support collaboration, progress updates, visitation planning, and continuity of care.
Systems Consultation & Staff Development
  • Provide coaching, consultation, and modeling to education and residential staff.
  • Support implementation of behavior plans through staff training, observation, and ongoing consultation.
  • Recommend environmental and programmatic modifications to support student success.
Crisis Prevention & Clinical Risk Management
  • Develop proactive crisis prevention strategies and contribute to Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMPs) and Recovery Zone planning.
  • Provide clinical consultation during behavioral crises and participate in post‑crisis reviews.
  • Support safe, least restrictive interventions consistent with organizational policies and best practices.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in reflective supervision, quality improvement initiatives, chart audits, and departmental meetings.
  • Provide supervision to interns or trainees as appropriate.
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, professional competencies, and required training.
  • Uphold ethical, relationship-centered practice, confidentiality, mandated reporting requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

Position Requirements

  • Our campus consists of some paved areas but primarily consists of grass, gravel paths and parking lots. Additionally, many areas of our building are fully accessible, however, as a historic building some areas are only accessible by stairs.
  • You must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass, and gravel.
  • Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis, both for the safety of the student and for the staff.
  • You must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools).
