Job description

The Clinician (IOP-PHP) supports young adults during one of the most pivotal and vulnerable transitions of their lives. Ages 18 to 26 bring new independence, new responsibilities, and often new or intensified mental health challenges without the safety net of adolescence. This developmental window also coincides with the peak age of onset for many mental health conditions, making early, intensive intervention especially critical. As a Clinician in Casa de Amparo's combined IOP/PHP program, you provide the intensive treatment and stability young adults need to navigate this transition successfully. The position provides structured specialty mental health services including assessment, treatment planning, individual/group/family therapy, crisis intervention, rehabilitation, case management, discharge planning, and care coordination to help young adults build the skills needed to stabilize and move toward independence.

  • Provide comprehensive therapeutic services including assessments, treatment and care planning, progress notes, transition of care documentation, discharge planning, and other required contract documentation.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy, rehabilitation, crisis intervention, case management, collateral services, and therapeutic milieu services as appropriate.
  • Assess client needs, strengths, symptoms, risks, level of functioning, diagnosis, treatment needs, and readiness for transition to a lower level of care.
  • Develop and update client treatment and care plans in accordance with medical necessity, client goals, contract requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Lead and participate in skill building groups, process groups, adjunctive therapeutic activities, community/milieu meetings, and structured therapeutic programming.
  • Support a therapeutic milieu that teaches, models, and reinforces constructive interaction, symptom reduction strategies, adaptive behaviors, and self-management skills.
  • Provide therapeutic services that are knowledgeable and respectful of differing cultures and the norms that exist within various cultures.
  • Consult with the Program Manager, Chief Programs Officer, Consulting Psychiatrist, and other clinical team members regarding assessment, treatment, risk, medication-related concerns, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with County representatives, outpatient providers, hospitals, crisis programs, community-based providers, families/support systems, and other partners as appropriate and authorized.
  • Participate in Treatment Team meetings, staff meetings, utilization management activities, case consultation, group supervision, and in-service trainings as required.
  • Assist with crisis assessment, safety planning, behavioral interventions, and linkage to higher level of care when clinically indicated.
  • Begin discharge planning at admission and support warm handoffs to outpatient behavioral health providers and other lower levels of care.
  • Maintain contract productivity, documentation, billing, authorization, and timeliness standards.
Provide services to clients not on the regularly assigned caseload, as needed and assigned, and support the program when other clinicians have time off.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Must be able to be associated with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), if applicable to the program/site, which typically includes clearance by FBI, DOJ and CACI.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, or related behavioral health field required.
  • Licensed preferred as a LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, licensed psychologist, or other County-approved licensed mental health professional in California. BBS registration or applicable licensing board number required.
  • Experience providing specialty mental health services, IOP/PHP services, day treatment intensive services, group therapy, crisis intervention, and/or co-occurring capable services preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult behavioral health needs, serious mental illness, trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented services, culturally responsive care, and adults stepping down from or at risk of requiring a higher level of care.
  • Experience with Medi-Cal, County behavioral health documentation, electronic health records, utilization management, and contract productivity standards preferred.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, time-management, organizational, written/verbal communication skills, and intermediate computer literacy. English proficient/Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Must have ambulatory, auditory, and visual skills to observe clients and staff.
  • Must have the physical ability to participate in activities and perform related physical skills, including, but not limited to, crouching, lifting 50 pounds, crawling on hands and knees, and walking up and down stairs.
  • Ability to comply with all employment requirements including, but not limited to CPR/First Aid, physical, TB and drug screen clearance, clear DMV record and approval from insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles. Must provide proof of immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles.
