Job summary

Casa Esperanza in Boston is seeking a Clinician II to provide outpatient mental health services to individuals with co-occurring disorders. You will assess, plan, and deliver individual, couple, and family therapy.

As part of a fully integrated team-based model, you will coordinate with Casa programs and external providers to maximize treatment outcomes and ensure wrap-around care for clients.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work or related field required.
  • Experience with psychiatric/substance-using co-occurring population.
  • Bilingual: Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with strength-based, trauma-informed environment.
  • Knowledge of community resources and HIV/AIDS in recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual therapy, couple therapy, and family therapy.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling and referrals when needed.
  • Coordinate and ensure effective treatment plans through case conferencing.
  • Engage external and internal service providers to meet client needs.
  • Deliver group treatment using evidence-based practices as needed.
  • Attend weekly clinical meetings and supervise treatment planning.

About Casa Esperanza

Casa Esperanza, Inc. is a bilingual/bicultural behavioral health treatment provider serving Boston and the Merrimack Valley. About the role

The Clinician II will provide clinical services to clients in the outpatient mental health clinic. The role will serve individuals with co-occurring disorders. The Clinician will identify and utilize the client’s strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences in completing assessments and developing individualized service plans. Clinician II also provides group treatment services using evidence-based practices, as needed.

As part of the Casa Esperanza, Inc. team, Clinician II will provide services in a fully integrated, holistic, and collaborative manner using a team-treatment approach to ensure the coordination of all client services, both across Casa programs and with external providers. This integrated model aims to facilitate clear communication amongst all providers, eliminate duplication of efforts or conflicting approaches to care, provide necessary follow-up and assignments, and ensure wrap‑around support services are in place to maximize treatment effectiveness and clinical outcomes.

Client Care
  • Provide individual therapy, couple therapy, and family therapy
  • Provides crisis intervention counseling, with referrals to ongoing mental health services when needed
  • Utilizes case conferencing and the program team to coordinate and ensure client treatment plans are effective and appropriate
  • Engages external and internal service providers to better meet clients’ needs
  • Provides group treatment using evidence-based practices, including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, relational and psychodynamic therapy, etc., as needed
  • Participate in weekly clinical meetings to provide updates and assist in decision-making related to treatment planning and implementation
  • Functions as a resource to the rest of the team on mental health-related issues and assists in the various components of this program
Administrative
  • Ensures adherence to program treatment philosophies and policies
  • Maintains client and program records in accordance with agency requirements and timelines
  • Assist with utilization management, which includes assessing the appropriateness, effectiveness, and medical need for services
  • Work with the billing specialist to ensure authorizations are up to date & units have not expired
  • Assist in all reporting as required by supervisors
  • Attending all training and professional development opportunities as required
  • Attends mandatory weekly MDT meetings
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field
  • Participate in weekly programmatic and clinical supervision
  • Other job duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field required.
  • Experience working with a psychiatric, substance-using, co-occurring population.
  • Bilingual: Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with working in a strength-based, trauma-informed environment
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources
  • Knowledge of the issues affecting people with HIV/AIDS in recovery from substance use/alcoholism
  • Experience with individuals dealing with homelessness, mental illness, domestic violence, and the criminal justice system
  • Experienced in crisis management and intervention
  • Experience providing individual, family, and group interventions to the target population
  • Strong verbal/written communication
  • Ability to work as both an effective team member and independently
  • Knowledge & practice of evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and motivational interviewing techniques, are preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements and training requirements of the position
Flexible Schedule — 4- or 5-day workweeks; day and evening hours available
***Saturdays from 9am to 1pm (As per program needs).
