Job summary

Alpas Wellness Centers in La Plata, MD, seeks a Clinical Therapist/Counselor to plan and coordinate medically approved treatment plans for patients in inpatient substance use disorder care. You will address co-occurring disorders, leverage clinical programming, and support families and after-care planning using evidence-based practices.

The role requires Maryland licensure or credential, 1–3 years of relevant experience, and strong communication, organization, and cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications

  • Must hold valid State of Maryland Licensure or Credential for Drug and Alcohol Counseling.
  • LCPC, LCADC, LCSW-C preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in behavioral healthcare or substance use settings.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients' mental and physical health and readiness for treatment.
  • Develop and coordinate medically approved treatment plans and interventions.
  • Collaborate with medical and psychiatric teams and after-care resources.
  • Support families with education and coping strategies.
  • Refer patients to resources and job placement or support groups.
  • Conduct outreach to identify signs of addiction and steps to recovery.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Therapist/Counselor plans and coordinates medically approved treatment plans and therapeutic interventions for patients seeking in-patient substance use disorder treatment in an Alpas facility. Treatment plans will address co-occurring disorders, leverage Alpas Clinical programming, address family systems and other factors influencing patients' recovery. The Clinical Therapist/Counselor inspires and motivates patients and helps them develop tools to work toward recovery using evidence-based and person-centered practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients' mental and physical health, addiction, or problem behavior and assess their readiness for treatment
  • Help patients' develop treatment goals and plans, including support of education about medically assisted treatment options and referral to / collaboration with other resources on the medical and psychiatric teams
  • Review and recommend treatment options with patients and their families; partner with Treatment Navigators around after care plan
  • Help patients develop skills and behaviors necessary to recover from their addiction or modify their behavior
  • Work with patients to identify behaviors or situations that interfere with their recovery
  • Teach families about addiction or behavior disorders and help them develop strategies to cope with those problems
  • Refer patients to other resources and services, such as job placement services and support groups
  • Conduct outreach programs to help people identify the signs of addiction and other destructive behavior, as well as steps to take to avoid such behavior
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Must hold valid State of Maryland Licensure or Credential that allows for practice of Drug and Alcohol Counseling (CAC-AD, CSC-AD, LGADC, LCADC, LGPC, LCPC, LMSW, LCSW, LSCW-C)
  • LCPC, LCADC, LCSW-C preferred
  • One to three years of experience in a behavioral healthcare or substance abuse settings serving culturally diverse populations
  • Knowledge of case management for dual diagnosis patients. Knowledge of medically assisted treatment options in the field of substance use disorder treatment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects under pressure
  • Must have strong knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization
  • Understands need for, and maintains, appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts
  • Exhibits excellent customer relation skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, residents, visitors, families and referral sources
Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday with two shifts available:
  • 8am to 4:30pm
  • 8:30am to 5pm
Compensation:

Salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000, depending on experience
