Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mentor Hospital seeks a Clinical Technician for Med/Surg to support adult patients across a broad spectrum of medical needs. You will assist with basic care, monitor patients, and help maintain a clean, safe environment under RN supervision.

The role offers night shifts (6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) with every other weekend and holiday rotations. Required: high school diploma or GED and BLS; nursing students may qualify with clinical rotations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS Certification through AHA or Red Cross required before within new hire period.
• Nursing students may substitute clinical rotations for required experience.
• Military experience in Hospital Corpsman/Combat Medic will be considered.
• Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at 8th grade level.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision (vital signs, weight, personal care, etc.).
• Report abnormal findings to an RN.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly.

Caregivers at Mentor Hospital’s Med/Surg Unit provide care to adult patients with a variety of medical issues or patients preparing for or recovering from surgery. Med/surg caregivers care for a broad spectrum of patients, giving them a vast and broad clinical skillset.

As a Clinical Technician, you will assist with basic patient care, maintain room cleanliness and demonstrate empathy and compassion in all activities and interactions. A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, further technical skills of phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG's and removing urinary Foley Catheters.

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before within new hire period (Nursing Students required to have BLS prior to hire)

• One year of recent, full-time patient care experienceAdditional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience)

• Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience

• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

• Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
