Qualifications

  • Requires a B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited program.
  • Pharm.D. or ASHP-accredited residencies preferred.
  • Active Pharmacist License in state of residence; Epic certification preferred within 6 months and 3 attempts.

Job description

The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist serves as an embedded informatics leader within Information Technology, leveraging advanced clinical expertise and informatics knowledge to optimize medication-use technology and related clinical systems, improve patient safety, and align operations with enterprise digital strategy.

This role functions as the primary liaison between Pharmacy Operations and/or assigned specialty service lines (e.g., Oncology, Transplant), and IT. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist provides governance leadership, workflow design expertise, clinical decision support oversight, adoption strategy, and clinical training alignment across Epic Willow, Beacon, and related systems. Responsibilities may include enterprise medication systems or specialty domains such as oncology treatment protocols, infusion workflows, transplant immunosuppression management, research medication processes, and specialty pharmacy operations.

Essential Job Statements
  • Serves as the primary informatics liaison between Pharmacy Operations, assigned service lines, and IT for medication-related systems.
  • Leads evaluation, redesign, and optimization of medication-use workflows to enhance patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Provides informatics leadership for enterprise pharmacy systems and/or specialty domains including oncology treatment plans, therapy plans, infusion protocols, transplant workflows, research medication management, and specialty pharmacy processes (as assigned).
  • Participates in and represents IT in Pharmacy governance forums, medication safety committees, oncology or transplant governance councils, and system standardization committees.
  • Partners with clinical education teams and pharmacy leadership to develop, align, and maintain medication-related EHR training curriculum to ensure consistency with current workflows, policies, and system functionality.
  • Designs and updates clinical training materials, simulation cases, tip sheets, and workflow documentation to support new functionality, upgrades, regulatory changes, and optimization initiatives.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training programs and adoption efforts using feedback, workflow observation, and performance metrics; recommends improvements to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Supports go-live and upgrade events through targeted education, at-the-elbow support, and clinical reinforcement of best practices.
  • Collaborates with Specialty Clinical Systems Analysts to ensure training materials reflect accurate build, decision support logic, and standardized workflows.
  • Reviews medication safety data, system analytics, and workflow observations to identify opportunities for education-driven or system-driven improvement.
  • Advises IT and Pharmacy leadership on regulatory, accreditation, and compliance implications of system changes, including CMS, 340B, REMS, research compliance, transplant standards, and related requirements.
  • Leads stakeholder review and clinical validation for medication-related changes including order sets, therapy plans, treatment plans, monitoring tools, clinical decision support, and medication alerts.
  • Performs product owner responsibilities when assigned, including backlog prioritization, clarification of clinical requirements, and alignment of clinical needs with technical solutions.
  • Contributes to the development of pharmacy and specialty service line technology roadmaps in collaboration with IT and clinical leadership.
  • Provides expert-level consultation for troubleshooting medication workflow issues escalated from analysts or operational staff.
  • Provides on-call support for medication-related applications as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Qualifications

Required Education: B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program

Preferred Education: Pharm.D. in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program. PGY1, ASHP-accredited residency. PGY2, ASHP-accredited residency

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure/Certification Required: Active Pharmacist License in state of residence. Active Certification or Accreditation in Epic (within 6 months of hire, 3 exam attempts)

Licensure/Certification Preferred: Active Ce rtification or Accreditation in Epic Willow, Willow Inventory, Specialty Pharmacy Compass Rose, Beacon, or other Epic clinical application

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: 3+ years of clinical pharmacy or operational experience in a hospital or health system. Experience participating in medication safety, oncology/transplant workflow initiatives, or pharmacy operations governance. Experience using or supporting Epic or other EHR systems

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Deep expertise in medication-use processes and pharmacy workflows. Strong understanding of medication safety principles and regulatory frameworks. Ability to translate clinical needs into technical requirements and vice versa. Strong workflow redesign and systems thinking capabilities. Ability to influence stakeholders across clinical, operational, and IT domains. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and clinical audiences. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Ex perience in oncology medication management and/or Beacon workflows. Experience supporting transplant or specialty pharmacy operations. Experience with clinical decision support optimization. Experience in Agile methodology and product ownership. emonstrated intellectual curiosity, integrity, and commitment to continuous improvement

Compensation Range

$121,638.40 - $188,531.20
